By chance I just met the author of this book:

Food on the Move - The Extraordinary World of Motorway Service Area.

I had won an old sign from a Happy Eater Restaurant off ebay "Happy Play Needs Watchful Parents" which I am going to put up in my games room (it being a nice old retro sign) so I met the seller at Victoria station to collect it. He then presented me with this book, and it really is fab. Loads of lovely old photo's/menus and detailed history of Motorway services. A real retro blast looking through it. As a kid (in the 80's) I actually used to have birthday parties at the Happy Eater, so its nice to look back on that era. The book says out of stock on amazon, but the chap assures me it is still available.
