Sega Afterburner Upright

Hi All, I'm trying to help out a retro enthusiast that has got an afterburner that isn't playing ball.
The coin mech isn't wired up so we're trying to setup a credit button as the owner hasn't been able to get the machine past the attract screen.

Most of the wires on the service panel have been removed.
The trouble is, after identifying the service button and coin 1 according to the schematic found online, shorting either of these to earth isn't crediting the machine.
The dip switches are set to 1 coin = 1 credit.

I know the free play is a bit messed up on these boards but now we've collectively found the service button and the coin 1 button and don't seem to get a response, where do we go next?

Pin 16 on the 25 pin connector is what I assume you have set for coin?

Hi Lurch666 I can confirm this is so, pin 16 on the 25 pin connector, On this particular cab it is the yellow/green wire.

Just to give an update,
continuity has been checked between pins :
2 ( service)
3(gnd)
16(coin1)
and all are good.
Also placed the machine on freeplay by changing all the dip switches to on on dip A. upon rebooting the cab, the message is still there to insert coin and pressing star does nothing so it isn't registering the dip switch being in freeplay mode either.

Found this and it's referring to a 50 pin connector with what I think is coin 1 on A2 of the connector. Any help?

Cheers, we checked this, the 50pin on the board goes to the 25pin on the filter board. This connector was cleaned and reseated. Definitely not registering any inputs
