Not the most technical of repairs but I thought I would share my journey.
So I picked up three machines a few months back one of which was a Brent Leisure SFII Hyper Fighting.
The status of these were unknown and after getting back from a 6 hour round trip a quick power up showed the SFII had graphics issues.
As you can see it had 'jail bar issues'
Also the charactors had blocks of graphics corrupted (not the best picture)
So follwoing the advice of some of the good people on the Tech forum I focused on the Mask Roms.
I did some research and found that you could replace these with 27C400 EPROMS, so a quick search on fleabay and I had 12 on the way.
Next was to get a EPROM programmer, after several false starts (I got one from a colleague that was only 32 pin, needed 40 pin) I purchased one of the Minipro TL866 units from the big online shop.
When it arrived I plugged it all in and to my dismay it did not list 27C400's, it did list 27C4096, and this is where I should have followed my own mantra, always do your research.
It turns out this unit cannot do 27C400's directly, but there was hope....a convertor on fleabay...sold before I could get it, but the seller was not far from me and a few emails later I had a kit for £13 which reassigns pins for the 27C400 and others.

So using the TL866 and the adaptor I was able to read each Mask Rom and compare using Romident or MAME. You need to select the AM27C4096 @DIP40 and also uncheck the 'Check ID'
After saving the file as unknown.BIN I compared using http://romident.coinopflorida.com/
Rom 1 did not come back as a game, never did ROM 2..so I start thinking am I doing this right, so I jumped to 8 and checked that one, bingo listed as SFII.
So back to 3 and after checking all I have 1,2,3,5,11,13 not giving any ident.
Using the MAME SFIIhf.zip file I had downloaded from EMUPARADISE website I then created 6 new ROMS.
Pretty straight foward, open the required ROM from the SFIIhf.zip file (already extracted) and program the EPROM, I did make a small change to the settings after watching a guy on YouTube.
After each new EPROM I blew I did a read of each one and then compared again to make sure I got the right hit from ROMident.
Then back into the board they went.
Finally was the big test, I have two of the Brent Supremes, one is almost restored ready for Football Champ, so for the sake of checking I threw the board in.
'Houston we have lift Off'
A quick play would suggest all my graphics issues are now a thing of the past, just need to finish off the retore of the cabinet and we are good to go.
