Tablet/Ipad Help - What do I buy?

Right dragging myself into the modern world at last and wanting to get some kinda tablet/ipad for xmas. I need one but also need one suitable for an 8 year old too.

Mine: needs to play videos/music (stuff I have downloaded) have internet access.

Child: play games, watch video/music, not too keen on internet access though (or certainly needs to be restricted).

Are 7" tablets too small?

Cheap Android tablets are just that, I've seen a lot for sale SH where the seller says things like, won't power on, stuck in power loop, turns on but ignores presses etc.

You can get decent Samsung 7" tablets SH quite cheap (60'ish quid mark), restricted access = turn wifi off

Or if you want so spend a bit more on quality I have an iPad 3 for sale at a good price

samsung all the way, i have also found with most people that they think a 7/8" will be big enough but regret not having the 10.1"

Tesco Hudl 2 for £129 is a staggeringly awesome piece of kit. Suitable for bot you and the kid.
