Tech: Gyzor Sound Query

[ukvac] Tech: Gyzor Sound Query
Evening all,

I have recently added an original Gryzor board to my collection. Have been
after this for a while after many happy hours playing this on the Speccy
back in the late 80's.

Everything works fine, apart from the music. The background music seems to
be perfect, apart from the beat's which are far louder than any other part
of the music and are also distorted. No matter how low you have the board's
onboard sound volume set, the beats of the music are still distorted. I have
tried the board on both my JAMMA cab and on my TV via the Supergun, but the
results are the same.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem with a game in their collection? If
so, what have you done to solve the problem?

Looking forward to any sensible suggestions or advice.

Kind regards,

I've got a similar problem with my Vapor Trail PCB. Some sounds and most of
the music is very distorted or broken up badly. I reckon its a ROM fault.
Haven't been bothered enough to get another burnt yet.
Could be wrong though...

Re: [ukvac] Tech: Gyzor Sound Query
if you have distortion on the sounds, have you verified the sound amp is ok?
it is highly unlikely that a bad ROM would cause distorted audio. Incorrect
sounds, or garbage noise may be rom, but not distortion. Check the volume
pot, the sound amp, and any of the capacitors in that section.

i'll eat my hat if it is a rom problem :)
