[ukvac] TECH: Monitor Synch Question
I have a Hantarex MTC900E monitor which I want to run some arcade boards
on but the thing only appears to have horizontal and vertical sync
inputs, no composite. I've been told that some people have had success
with this monitor by simply connecting the composite sync to the
monitors horizontal sync but this just doesn't appear to work for me.

I've tried connecting the comp sync to the horizontal, vertical, and
both at the same time but the best I can get after much adjustment to
the various post at the back of the monitor is an image that slowly and
steadily moves in both the horizontal and vertical axes.

Anyone know of something else I could try.

I'm also told I could build a circuit to split the comp sync into a
vertical and horizontal sync. Can anyone tell me how to build such a
thing?

I've had some problems with these in the past not syncing properly..

Continue as you've been told though, connect the JAMMA comp. sync to the
horizontal sync line and leave the vert line disconnected..

find the horizontal hold pot and play around with that until you get a
picture.. I had a very frustrating time where only one board would sync up,
the rest were all screwed... just stick at it, you'll get it eventually..

seeya!

Is the horizontal sync the same as the horizontal frequency?
(the monitor only has horizontal and vertical frequency and shift)

Yes. This is what I did after reading randy fromm's tips on that monitor
but the sucker will just not synch. I've turned the horizontal frequency
from one extreme to the other and back.

I did notice one thing looking at the board and schematics. The
horizontal synch that I'm using appears to be a + horizontal sync.
Behind that there's a 3 prong plug with a - horizontal sync (gnd -v -h).
Is this perhaps where I should be connecting the comp sync? It's a -
comp synch after all, isn't it?

Solved the problem. I found a -V and -H synch connector BEHIND the +v
and +h and thanks to bob roberts I got it working by connecting the comp
sync to both of these.

Thanks everyone for the help.
