Hi all,
I know I've been a bit strange(er) than usual so far this year.... (Spy Hunter valuation, needing cheering up, etc)
Well... I'm now in a position to give an update to you guys...

Arcadewise....

Pinball - staying
Jamma Cab - staying
Spy Hunter - staying
PCB's - going to be cut down some.

Real world life wise....

One
of my Uncle's has been diagnosed with cancer and has been given about 6
months to live. Now at 82 he says "I've had a good life and regret
nothing" great outlook imo, however it still all came as a shock to us.

Then also this year I got promoted then demoted to less money...

And
finally.... the one I couldn't mention till now.... I still can't go
into great detail about most of it but I can give a brief outline..

As
some people know I'm a grandad at the tender age of 36. Well my
grandson was born in Jan this year and in Feb he went into care. So for
the last 6 or so months me and the missus have been assessed for
suitability to become "Special Guardians" this included CRB checks,
house checks, pet checks, whether our cars had MOT's the list is
honestly endless!

Well court day was today so we travelled off to
Chester and the judge has granted the order with approval of Social
Services and someone appointed in his best interests. I can't go into
much more detail on the how's and whys except to say 6 months ago the
missus and me chatted and decided that we would do anything needed to
stop him leaving the family and being adopted.

We get him
permanently on the 31st Aug so we need to get the house ready for him
now. I may put a few pcbs up to cover a few things, who knows!

So
we know now where we stand and can now begin to plan our lives again
as everything has been on hold. The stress has been unbelievable
smiley18.gif

To end..... as I told the missus on the drive back.... I now have my Player 2

If it means you can keep one pcb instead of having to sell it then I am happy to help dude. I think what you're doing is great.
Again thanks for the offer, but honestly I can't accept any cash
smiley9.gif
however if you have any spare Strider/Rainbow Islands/Willow pcbs around you don't want feel free to send me one
smiley36.gif

I won't be selling much if anything at all. If we need something though then a quick pcb sale may happen. I can't wait for the chunky monkey to arrive permanently
smiley1.gif

Of course he will be trained in all things retro from old consoles/computers to arcades/pinballs, etc

Having just read this, Spy Hunter is MCR isn't it??

If you still don't have a working set then send one to me - preferably not a basket case and I'll do my best !!!

You'll have to PM me details though because if it's more than just the main stack I may need some other bits. (Don't know if I have all the guff required to fix Squalk N Talk's for instance). I've fixed a load of MCR board sets in my time (Tron, DoT, eDOT and Solar Fox). I don't really "do" PCB repair any more as a service, but I don't mind helping people out every now and then when my mood takes me, and it sounds like you deserve it
smiley4.gif

Sorry if that sounds condescending or anything, but like Oll, the offer is there.

Now that's an offer I may take you up on. If possible though I'd like to learn to repair them but finding a tech post on causes and fixes seems to be a no goer

My pcbs mainly have the same problem and its the super sound I/O pcb you any hints on them?

That's because cause and effect isn't a viable way to troubleshoot PCBs - it's basically shooting in the dark and leaves you just guessing if a fault sounds similar to the one you have ultimately you end up replacing parts that are not faulty until you find one that is, which is a waste of time.

What's the fault? I just had a quick squizz at the schems and it's starting to come back to me! The SSIO board is optional, the game should run without it connected at all (obviously with no inputs so you can't actually PLAY the game!), but if it's connected and faulty, it can just come up with an error, or it can hang it completely.

I'd need it in front of me to be able to diagnose though. I can't diagnose PCBs remotely.

Out of all the sets I have.... I can get the game running with a loud hum as if there's a grounding issue. If I connect a different main pcb then the hum goes. The main problem I have is the sound pcb as it does register a fault or stops the game running completely. So far I think I'd be right in saying I have at least 2 main pcbs sort of working, 0 working sound pcbs (got about 5 of them!) they either report the fault or stop everything from running. My Cheap Squeak is the only 100% working bit
smiley36.gif

As from my other post I'm going to slowly work on it when I get time and that includes stripping and rebuilding the psu. After that is done its onto the boardsets. Going to train the little monkey in pcb repair early on I think
smiley36.gif
If its ok I'll get the psu serviced and get back to you
smiley1.gif
won't be soon though
smiley36.gif

Cheers
