Tips on playing Salamander 2?

Can anyone help me suck less? Obviously on Sal2, as I rock hardcore at everything else natch

.

I'm playing on Easy with 9 ships per credit and I can just get to the end of level 1 on a single credit but get wiped out completely on level 2. The ships that smush me to the top and bottom of the screen are impossible and I find it hard to kill them as I only get a short period where I can fly (so shoot) at them, same with the tendrils/snakes that wrap around me.

I'm not sure I fully understand the power-up options system either

Any help appreciated!

For shooting tips I tend to watch playthroughs on youtube. They tend to be score focused but you can pickup some good techniques from watching them, especially boss battles.

Salamander is a great series but the vert sections just put me right off. Much harder than Gradius IMHO but then maybe I didn't give it a fair go.

Best konami soundtrack of the early 80s though by far IMHO. Stereo too

Why were no Gradius game stereo until IV?

It is Gradius though basically so near enough the same strats apply, the upgrade system is the main difference. Just learn the patterns and when to get the right weapons and stay calm. The more you play the more you get used to the waves and the further you get.
