So... i've had a taito cocktail for years, was part of a swap deal.

Someone had use the trusty 'nail as a fuse' tactic and the psu monitor and pcb were all well fried. I sent the PCB away years ago. I still have the other bits.

Its a pretty original cab, glass, instruction cards,CP's, coin mech and loom are all original, un-hacked, but well used.

The body of the cab is in fair condition, glass is scratched but it doesn't interfere with play, few dinks and scratches and someone has had a go at crowbaring the metal away from the wood to get in the coin box. This has been beaten back into place and the metal bits given a blowover. Chrome legs are in a poor state visually but still sturdy. It looks reasonably tidy now but definitely wearing all of its 32 years.

As a younger man I decided to MAME it. I got it running ~7-8 years ago plugged into the original loom with a pad hack for the inputs and coin mech. Screen is an old 14" SVGA. Then the PC bits were taken out and it was put in the loft for about 5 years.

It was rescued from the loft and once again I wondered what to do with it. I ended up building a bartop the cocktail basically acted as the base of said bartop for a year.

This year I decided to stop fannying around building stuff and bought two cabs. The cocktail is homeless again, the OH doesnt want it in the living room. It either goes back in the loft or I sell it.

So... to the present day. Its still got a 14" SVGA in it (800x600) The CPs are original 2-way with the nice SI overlays. I've got a laptop (broken screen removed) ready to go in it and a USB pad incoming to hack for the inputs.

I can then punt it as a 2-way 1 button mame cab.

or

I can hack the original CPs slightly to accept a 4-way stick and punt it as a 4-way 1 button mame cab.

or

I can replace the CPs with plain black perspex ones, stick the 4 way sticks in and punt it as a 4-way 2 button mame cab

or

I can do any of the above but stick a 60-in-1 in it.

or

I can restore it to SI

.....

the last option is what jesus would do, ofc the other options are the work of the devil. however im an atheist and just want rid of the thing before the continuing sight of it in the living room causes a domestic.

anyone any suggestions? I see LCD screened 60-in-1 hacked to bits crap going for around £500 on fleabay and yes the eyes light up and i think of all the other old sh*te I could buy for 500 notes I admit.

Hmmm, tricky. Depends on what you want really. A decently done Taito MAME cocktail can look very swish play very well as an SI (and other 2 way 1 button game) cab. Obviously adding 4 way sticks and buttons makes it apparent to a collector that it's not real but for sale value it will probably bump the ebay price up. As I said, depends what you want £££ or a nice looking cab again?

I was going to finish the MAME job and put it on ebay, but if you're interested let me know and we can sort something out.

usb pad came today - 10 button plus the d-pad so enough to do all the controls and the coin mech. almost finished it today but ended up playing radar scope and gaplus instead
