...certain sections of the forum get displayed on the main page recent posts list? Seems daft to filter them out.

Without investigating, I would assume it's because some sections are private and some not. For the private sections you must be logged in and therefore they won't show.

I spose it's cos MAME and one or two others aren't in there, considering what is listed in it.
