That is such a long and impressive collection of work, presented without pomp or fanfare. I don't know where to start but I shall certainly be trying some of them, free time and available/repairable hardware permitting. Thanks!

What is better than R-Type II...... R-Type II with High Score Save, WOW THANKS GADGETFREAK, I didn't ever expect to see that.. Works a treat, I just need to actually get good at it now, as I'm only managing to get about half way up the high score table so far.

Anyway works really well, I'll be sure to get you another game that you don't have :)

Looking forward to other Irem games :).... Dragon Bread, Mr Heli, X Multiply, Air Duel

Well Recently done both my Hammerin' Harry [M84] and R-Type II [M84]

Had to put shorter legs on the ram adaptor board to make it fit, bit snug but works perfectly...

Not a bad idea.. Its not hard to fab a pcb nowadays..

Googling fifa 95 shows this chip

https://www.mouser.com/ds/2/348/Rohm-BA6129AF_BA6162_BA6162F-1201632.pdf

Considering the cost of NVRAM's nowadays probably worth doing

I was pulling apart a megadrive cart today and noticed it uses a coin cell and small 8-pin chip (marked 1026B) to backup the onboard 6264 ram. couldn't find a data sheet for it so traced it and found its connected as follows -

1 - gnd

2 - n/c

3 - 6264 pin 26 (/CE2)

4 - battery +ve

5 - n/c

6 - 6264 pin 28 (VCC)

7 - n/c

8 - +5v

the 6264 on the mdcart gets its power at all times from the 1026B - pin 28 of the 6264 is not connected to the main 5v supply.

I presume the 1026B detects a voltage drop at pin 8 and then powers ittself and the ram until power is restored.

The battery was still holding charge - on a Fifa 95 cart over 20 years old.

So I wondered if I could lift pin 28 of the ram on boards that use a 6264 and hook it up to the 1026B, then wire the 1026B and battery to a scrap of vero and mount it somewhere close by.

So I tried it with a major title i'd converyted to x-multiply, and it worked :D

carts like fifa 95 and plenty other EA sports stuff use this chip and can be picked up for next to nothing, certainly cheaper than nvrams - and means you're not risking a knockoff chip or something past its shelf life. If you mount the coin cell (cr2032) in a holder you should be able to swap it out while the board is powered.

Well I've got a few more games (75+ lol) i'd like to see the HSS done one.... so I'll have to starting buying them and giving them too you..... as it seems to be that if you have it.... it ends up with a HSS..... maybe other members have doubles they don't need ;-) ... seems a good way of paying for your work :)

You really have helped inject NEW LIFE into a fantastic Hobby.

THANKS

Hello,

Just to let you know that Rom Patcher doesn't recognize properly the Ghost's n Goblins romset "gngc" (World? set3), to know my romset i used romident with Mame 0204.

Rom Patcher recognizes "gngblita" instead of "gngc"and so cannot patch "gngc" 'World? set3).

So to patch, i had to select "gngc" and no autodetect who don't work for this set.

Regards

It's a 'Feature'

I knew this could happen when I wrote the routine. It will happen with other games as well and is caused by 1 or more roms being the same between different versions. The Auto Detect routine stops at the first matching rom it finds. It is awkward to check for all roms as they vary with the patch type which I don't know at the time.

I may find a way to improve it but until then you can be certain the Game will be identified and can just work through all the versions, trying the Patch button.
Before it patches anything it will verify all required rom files are present so no damage will be done.

Hmmm, about Side Arms, there is a problem, but i don't know if all versions are same. When you finish the game (kill the last boss), you cannot enter your name, you must die if you want enter the score.

I made the HSS in my Wonder Boy, but there is a strange thing, i have 2 same wonder boy (wboyub, us bootleg) with the same Z80, same pcb, but with one the patched eproms works, with another wonder boy, i have a black screen when i power on the game....

I doubt this is anything to do with my patch! The code is only patched after high score entry. Have you tried to complete this version in Mame to see what happens. You fail to mention the version???

Same Z80, same PCB means nothing! Do all the roms match between the 2 boards. Does it actually work if you put the original roms back in?

I read about HSS but this tool does rom patching?

I have a wonderboy and HSS would be great, but I think I’d need a nvram or something to do that, right?

I guess I don’t understand what this tool does.
