Picked up a really clean Panasonic 21 inch CRT tv last week.
There was no sound so opened it up and gave it a good clean inside. Really dusty but now clean and all looks good on visual inspection.
I unplugged the speaker and ran it through a spare I had to see if it was just blown but got nothing until I noticed a crackling which got gradually louder and then realised it was the audio but heavily distorted. I plugged the original speaker back in and got the same thing but after a minute the audio was clearing up until it eventually was outputting clean audio.
So the problem is that it has sound but needs about 5-10 mins from cold for the audio to work.
There’s also a little narrowing and letterboxing on the image.
I’m guessing this could be just old caps that are on the way out?
I’ll probably just do a full cap replacement but anyone else had similar issues with the audio as it’s not something I’ve seen before.
Pics just because!
