It looks like the kind of artwork Universal would use? Only game I can think of is Cosmic Avenger but I don't think that's right.

I still wouldn't have got it, I've never heard of it. I was about to guess Galaxy Wars and Magical Spot.

That cab in the flyer is the same artwork as a Galaxy Wars cab. I think only the marquees and bezel are different.

I did think it was a rather Sega looking ape, but I don’t even remember one in the game and I’ve got the board (and played it mostly through)

The illustration and colour scheme gave it away - very similar to Shinobi. The only other monkey boss I can remember from that time from a "serious" game was Strider, but that was a robot one
