Hi folks, tomorrow (3 November) is the debate in Parliament about the e-petition relating to the Stop Killing Games movement.

thought this was something my Nan would have posted about games where you kill people

i think the problem with this is that nobody reads the T&Cs anymore, you aren't actually buying the games anymore, just a license to play them, the internet and digital changed everything for everyone, for the better AND for the worse

my only gripe is that i cant play the doritos game on my xbox 360 anymore, but that was free

It's a bit more complicated than that. The main core argument rests on the assertion that videogames are sold as goods (like books and CDs), but at some later stage the publisher has the ability to take back what they sold. To make the pages of your book go blank.

Nobody is asking for live service games to last forever, but rather that games are given an end of life plan. To responsibly sunset a game, release the server executable so a community could take over hosting for example. All these arguments are set out on here https://www.stopkillinggames.com/faq
