Just deleted the select button !

In attract mode groovymame

Just sorting some control buttons out
I wanted to change the action select button ..
so I seem to have deleted the joy0 action select ..
so literally can’t do anything except
Toggle through options ?
Can I use a ps2 keyboard or ps2 mouse at this point to select ?

Any help appreciated

You might be able to plug another device in and use that, it depends what (if any) secondary button mappings were set.

I'm not familiar with Attract Mode but if it's running on a standard Windows PC you should be able to plug a USB keyboard in and use ALT+TAB to reach an explorer window, or failing that use CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to kill Attract Mode and drop you back at the desktop. Then if you can find the file that Attract Mode uses for its mappings, temporarily rename it and then run Attract Mode again. It should auto-generate a new one then you can compare the old and new to find out what the original mapping for SELECT was. Or just re-do all your mappings from inside the frontend. Hope that makes sense.

I will update here if it works ..
Yeh makes perfect sence bud this is what I wanted and did try but
Not 100 percent sure my keyboard works .. also I will need a mouse
And I gotta go routing in loft to get all this stuff as it’s a ps2 type keyboard and mouse im after….
Can’t believe I did it!!!!!! Darn it!

Anyone know the file attract mode uses for the button mapping ?

Is it the std.ini file
Default xml button config.
If I rename this on next boot it will auto generate a new default button layout ? And hopefully my select button will have returned

Or is it just

groovymame/docs/config.txt​

Can I simply just add or Delete 1 letter to change name of file then this will trigger a new auto generated a default file and return the button that selects everything ?

Couldn’t locate the file in the attract folder .
Mainly because 15k res in windows on my Crt don’t allow me to see enough of the image to select it.

once again I’m back to needing to do a fresh install
Just for one button the select button ..
It’s mad!
I can still control everything in mame UI.. just not in attract UI.

Do I need to specify the
working directory for mame in the
Tab button menu

Mame,
Working directory ?
