CPS 1 - Street fighter 2 - Champion Edition, graphical glitches

Just recently bought a complete SF2 champion edition, sold as working, but when it arrived it seem to have graphical glitches, a bit unsure of where I should start troubleshooting this, and is it a given that it's caused by the proprietary chip (I'v tried to read a bit around and understand these is a known weak point of these boards).

Uploaded a video that shows some of the artifacts:

I cant be 100% sure but it looks like the C board to me , It could also be a rom issue but prety rare. I would remove all of the seated roms , clean the sockets and refit. The try again. Also remove the C Board and clean and refit it as poor connections cause this too. Have you another CPS1 game with a known good A board you can test if that fails ??

Dave.

It's the only cps 1 I'v got at the moment, but I'l look into what you suggest, haven't had time to start taking things apart yet, but crossing fingers it's not the custom chip at the moment :)

Thanks for the tips! :)

A pic of the board would help to evaluate condition.
Minor background gfx artifacts changing like that would suggest the B&C board need removing from the A board and re-seating. Check the pins on the connectors to see if they are bent or broken and be careful when re-seating. If any pins are bent then be very careful straightening them as these pins break easily.
If it was the A or C board failing there would be far more noticeable issues going on IMO.
edit: also what are you running it on? Cab or supergun? Check your voltage at the edge connector as it could just be that.

this is the board in question, the seller actually offered a refund if shipped back, but I'd rather keep it if I can get it running.

btw, are they supposed to separate just like cps-2 or is there some kind of "lock" on the connectors between a-b-c ? (seem to be quite hard to lift so stopped) :)

Ugh! Chinese conversion. I'd send it back mate. Not worth messing with it as they've stamped everything. Probably a broken / bent pin when they assembled it. Get your money back and spend a bit more on an OG board in good condition rather than a cobbled together POS

ahh, guess I overpaid for this then, was a ebay buy from a (us) seller with good records, but I guess that wasn't a good buy then. (bought together with e genuine umk3 board that seem to be working fine from what I'v seen.

Looks like there is some crud around the main board.....not sure what it is...

How much did you pay for it. Think i have a champions edition boot leg here somewhere
bit hard to say exactly, main reason I bought this was due to combining shipment with the umk3 which was the board I was most after (and shipment being quite steep to Norway) but it would be in the $300+ range guess I'l end up returning it and keeping the umk3 :)

But am I mistaken in thinking this is a genuine Capcom board or ?

Yeah it's a genuine Capcom board. The A board looks to be in poor shape and the B board has roms with new labels on which means it's not fully original. $300 is too much for this.
An original with a decent A board is about £200 which is about $270
