My mate had the hornet!he wouldnt ever let anyone have a go though, sod!(keep it on my shelf, keep it looking pretty!)tsk.Blast from the past. Anyone like me, used to stand in Beatties and drool over the tamiya rc cars on display and that box art while these vids were playing in the 80s.
Great stories and memories.Funny seeing this thread, I loved Tamiya as a kid in the mid eighties and also used to drool over the promo videos and kits lined up on the shelf at the local hobby store. I've recently got back into it again, enjoying bashing this beauty this summer.. Blackfoot Xtreme with hop ups and OG Blackfoot inspired decals..

I know it's too new to be part of the classic era, but the missus bought the kit for me 20 years ago when I was last talking about my love for 80s Tamiya. So I'm currently reliving a time when I was first reliving my youth.. that old now!
I never managed to get a new kit to build as my parents couldn't afford one bitd, but my dad got me a second hand Sand Scorcher (with F150 Ranger XLT body shell) from a guy he worked with for xmas '86 (Β£30 at the time!). I loved it but it was so heavy, it only ran for about 4 minutes on a charge.. the old 1200mah hump pack! I retrofitted a Super Champ body onto it to make it more of a baja buggy and improve the handling and run time.. to 5 minutes
My mate at the time got a brand new Falcon so I built that as he wasn't really that interested.. so I got my build fix that way!
I never chuck stuff out so I still have all the kit from the 80s and was planning to restore it 20 years ago, before all the re-res. I've since picked up Lunchbox and Subaru Brat kits and having seen the new F150 Ranger XLT re re, I feel I neeeeed that kit to take me back to xmas '86 and the build of it I never had!![]()
They're so cool though. Imagine finding them cheap on a house clearance because people think they're broken old junk!https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/178496351723
Then you have the other end of the scale on cheap cabs, absolutely insane high prices
That could well happen, some of the stuff ive seen or bought from people that have done house clearances is mad, Β£1000 worth boxed like new ghetto blasters and my Technics SB-RX50 speakers were, okay they were in poor condition but someone got a bargain and i only paid Β£160 quidThey're so cool though. Can't remember what I paid for my car setup but it was something daft like Β£40 off ebay then paid about Β£100 for some more cars so i have 10 total with 3 pairs of steering wheels
