I did get original Grass Hopper 1 and 2 from the tip and guy down there had some 70's beauties like Subaru Brat with all the metal suspension like the Ford Ranger F150 school mate had, were amazing quality back then
Always fancied one of the Tamiya Tanks as well

Tamiya Celica GT-Four 97 Monte
Released in 1997 and discontinued in 2003 but it's still newer than the cab it's sitting on!

This is what I had in the 80s. used to be a cool model shop couple of miles from us, didn't have massive money to spend, like the off road type as more places you can drive it so it was either Tamiya Grasshopper or Mardave Apache
Around same price as Grasshopper but chose the Mardave Apache as they were a Leicester model company so it was nice to support local business
Mine was Yellow one same as this and I never knew they did a Blue Body till I saw this one on ebay so snapped that up too, just a shame the front nose where the screw holds it on has broken off but nice to have still
Got 10 of the Tornado Coin Op Cars which are taking a lot of space up in my shed so another job on my endless list is making some brackets to display them on walls, probably some hanging flat with wheels on wall and some nicer condition ones like this side ways angled down a bit

Nice. Lewisham was better then, not like now. No character left and too many stabby people around. The Fox and Firkin 😂 yeah, I've had a few pints in there over the years. There even used to be a small comic shop just before the railway bridge leading towards the Fox n Firkin. I sold them over 500 mint Marvel 1979-1983 comics i had to help buy some computer games.
Got an Atari Lynx when they used to have bootsales in the upstairs Lewisham centre carpark in the early 90s.

Nice cars. Them Apaches look a bit like a mix between a few tamiya 2 wheel drives like the Grasshopper and fox etc. Them coin up RCs are awesome. Them and the boats in the arcades and fairgrounds in the late 70s and 80s tingling nostalgic bliss.
Well I've gone down a right bloody rabbit hole, been looking at Avante and Egress kits, then I remembered a few folk at the local RC club had various Schumacher *Cat cars so refreshed my memory on those.
I remember seeing the Mardave stuff in the magazines, ISTR they had a nitro-powered Mini that looks like it would be a riot in a car park.

Cars and boats at Poole Park back in the day! Choice of a yacht – fack that! – dirty speed boat every time! Hazy memory remembers that you could go through some tunnel or something and set off some alarm or a shark would pop up out the water, or I may be over romanticising 😆🤘

I remember sometimes the Coin Up RC boats and cars etc would swallow my money and didn't work a few times. They must have been a bit temperamental. Still love em.

I remember in the later 80s i went with a school friend to look at a RC car he wanted to buy off another kid. We went around to the persons address and he came to the door with a Marui Ninja with a white body shell. Dam, that thing looked good.
