George Wilson, an early graduate of Newport, spent two seasons in the early 1980s as a bingo caller in Cain’s Amusements on the seafront at Herne Bay, Kent. Whilst there he documented the often hidden activities, cultures and communities in this typical British arcade. George’s extraordinary collection is currently informing researchers into hitherto overlooked arcade cultures.

Really good pictures! Nice row of what appears to be Electrocoin Goliaths there! Silver Skis pusher as well, they had one of those in the St. Ives harbour front arcade down here in Cornwall! :D

Battlezone, sparking up a ciggy next to that Monaco GP and Cromptons Cakewalk 2p pusher... ahhh the 80s.
I notice the pics of people leaning back on those Cromptons machines because they will be giving them the odd tap tap lol! Not enough to set the alarm off but will bring down some free coins now and again. Yep I was poor back then so we all had to be creative funding our arcade fix

I did some (awful) online detective work and (as far as I could tell) this is not a physical exhibit on the campus ... am I off my rocker?

Is this just a 'ask us if you can come have a look' kind of deal only?

Only asking because I have given myself a goal to drive out to a photography gallery and seafood restaurant (not fish and fucking chips!) at least once a month and it's not going well!
😅
