Great timing Tony - I have just watched the video that Alex shot for his tours series.

Third jibs on an I-Robot (after you and Alex)!

Watched this today on the TV in the games room, while I was supposed to be getting on with a few odd jobs. Ended up glued to the screen from start to finish. Great episode and great collection! Cheers for doing this, guys.

Amazing collection. I wonder how many of those will still work. Some of these older cabs are like owning a classic car - you need to start (switch them on) from time to time !

Great article Tony.

Cheers

Mark

You're right, it's not obvious as it just shows the cover image in the reader email when you subscribe.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - when the subject matter is as extenstive and super-cool as this week, it's a pleasure to put things together to share with everyone, as the article just writes itself.

I just watched Alex's video again - he does such a great job with those things - it's great to read the article and watch the video - interesting how both formats compliment each other so well, as you pick up different things from each I think. We should do more of these joint reports Alex!

Very interesting reading - as always!

You wrote that Alpha1's European Gravitar is the only one left in the world, and that made me wonder. I may be wrong, but I think I have the same type of cabinet. Can anyone help me confirm that if I post a picture? Mine is in terrible condition, but it looks like the cabinet shape and CPO is the same. Mine also had the one piece silk screened glass, if I remember correctly. But I may be wrong, I am on holiday at the moment.

It's great that someone has gone to the effort of saving many of these machines. I think we are all (in small or in large amounts) aiming for something similar when we start collecting these things.

Fair play though, I look at the machines and there are a number in the video that I would love to own. I wish I had been more 'connected' in the 90s (I started collecting around 2001) and I wish I had had space to put things in (I only had room for 1 machine and a loft for PCBs - I still own that machine though). I can't be envious though (fair play again) because I would have broadly fallen in the category of not interested in X, Y & Z.

So it's a great collection owned by someone with vision beyond many others.

Finally got some time to watch the video, OMG what a spectacular collection
I would really like a Darius Burst cab, love the game and the soundtrack.

Would also like an I, Robot too. Used to play it in Morrisons in Leeds city centre while mum did the shopping, first time I played it, I made the mistake of choosing doodle city!!
once I played the main game I was awestruck.

? Don't remember Morrisons ever having arcade games....i assume you are on about the Morrisons on the Merrion Center? Nearest place i remember arcade games in was the bowling alley at the back of the Merrion Center....

Alex - just let me know dude. Have notebook and camera, will travel.

i,Robot is an interesting one. Since posting the article a lot of people have said they remember playing it back in the 80s over on these shores. I have never seen or played one ever until that day - and I visited a lot of arcade in the early 80s too. Weird.
