Sad to see but they have said as a bonus those that have ordered now will receive some extra stuff.

I think a saw the console only orders will get a free controller and those that included the games a 30% off voucher for their store

I don’t believe their excuse for a minute. I think they have seen the price of memory skyrocketing and all silicon going up. They have therefore hedged their bets that a year from now they can make these consoles and make a good profit (as originally intended).
It’s scandalous that they don’t offer an immediate refund and the promos of an undisclosed “bonus” smells of BS too.

Everything I seem to preorder these days gets months added to when it actually turns up, whilst it sucks if I cancelled I'd only reorder again next year, time to sit down and wait, means I can focus on my other consoles for awhile.

Plaion are not getting a loan of £800 from me for 16 months for free, I am trying to cancel mine. Time to see how good their '100% Money-Back Guarantee' is!

They never had any intention of shipping on time, you do not keep pre-orders open unless you have secured and locked in suppliers for components in advance. The AI component crisis was in pretty much full swing when they were accepting pre-orders.

They still show this on the Plaion websites, Ultimate product page:

"The NEOGEO AES+ units included in this product will be the first off the production line, numbered at the factory and produced in extremely low quantities – your very own chance to own a piece of history reborn!"

I do not believe for a moment that they have manufactured any consoles. If they had they should be shipping them to ultimate customers by now. Lets be realistic here do you really think they are storing thousands of consoles in a warehouse while they are still producing enough to fulfill their preorders? Warehouse storage costs money. If the consoles were actually sitting there, it would make far more sense to ship them out and reduce those costs, and deliver what Plaion promised to ultimate pre-order customers.

I ordered mine through Amazon on the presumption that something would come up and Amazon would be easier to deal with the ordering directly and dealing with Plaion.
I'm curious as to how places like Amazon and Argos who you can preorder through are handling it?
Amazon is still saying it's shipping on November 12th, Argos has an earlier realesae of in 5 days time

What’s always concerned me most about this is the ‘get it right first time’ non-updatable FPGA aspect. There’s so much riding on it working 100% with every single cart that if someone does fook it up in production then that’s them bust as they could never recall the lot. At the end of the day it’s really a fixed use FPGA in a pretty frock.

The "FP" in FPGA means it's probably still programmable, there'll be a JTAG header on the board somewhere.

Nephew was saying other day about Consoles in General and how much the prices have gone up and if you don't buy the new ones on launch your going to pay even more the next year so it's like a trap if you don't buy a pre order or launch.
Just crazy world were living in and when are prices of ram etc going to drop, who know's so they could well be more expensive next year
I'm just happy playing them on mame or other cheap ways and don't have all this stress to worry about prices

They've sold it as having an ASIC - they're literally burning their own a custom chip(s) rather doing it via an FPGA.
It's a key bit of the marketing blurb.

In hindsight, I wonder if they'll wish they'd just put in an FPGA.

In about a week in Tokyo they're going to apparently.
If I were to bet, it'll be a WIP with an FPGA, but maybe they will have actual proto ASIC boards. I doubt they'll do a no-show.
