yesterday i woke up to a letter saying i have been banned from driving and need to send my licence back
I thought the letter was fake at first but searched my licence on dvla and a list of offences came up and fines that arent even mine :(
The court that this supposedly happened in is a completely different area, i contacted police they was no help i contacted dvla and they gave me the courts number and the court told me to send an email explaining whats happened.
Im so pissed off as i cant even drive my car.
about 2 years ago i had a letter to attend court on something similar for somebody driving with no insurance.. when i got the court the women told me there was 6 steven greys there and i basically had to fill a form out as they could see i was the wrong person then i left.. never got any compensation for all the messing a about either :(
this ever happened to anyone else?

Oh yeah the person who got banned happens to have the same driving licence number and same NI number as me so the guy on the phone was talking to me like im chatting crapstegrey2019-07-03 08:39:09

Could all this have happened without the person being in attendance? (Speed cameras, sentencing in absence?).

Im not sure , one of the convictions on my licence says in jan £660 fine and refusing to give name to police officers
other was dec driving with no insurance £120stegrey2019-07-03 09:32:15

Just called back the courts to say i havent heard anything yet.. he knew who i was straight away and said theres been an error by somebody who works there.. Sounds like they just looked for anyone because they dont know the actual person?
he said it could take a few days to hear back now so i still cant drive

Well sounds like they definitely came face to face with the police a few times.

Big of a screw-up then, that someone can do all that, then get away with fake details.

Did you mention identity theft to the police?

Did they say why you can't drive even thought it's clearly not you who's been banned? Would you be prosecuted if you drove and were stopped?

They said i cant drive atall because alls the police will see on the computer is im banned and the convictions so i could be arrested or the car taken... A few years back i would of just carried on driving and if i got in trouble i would of tried to sue them for being wrong but i just cant be bothered with the messing about nowadays

Sure there was something similar on TV in the last 6months, someone had same details, not sure if it was same issue with driving, pretty sure it was same NI numbers, wasn't fraud thing was them that gave two people same number I think

The online crime and stuff that goes on these days is just shocking, what a nightmare to deal with this crap

Yeah you're right, probably isn't worth the hassle. So sh*tty being a law abiding citizen while the scumbag who has your number is probably still driving around and not giving a sh*t.

The problem really does seem to be that "computer says no" way too often, and nobody has any authority to have a think when stuff like that happens.

I'd be driving around and tell police etc to do one when I get caught, but that is asking for trouble.

I'd be in touch with a decent local solicitor whatever, and recording whatever this costs you in terms of actual £ spent out as a result day-to-day.

Sadly, you could imagine it'll result in pain with all the APNR stuff around these days, especially during the daytime (DVLA cars) - you could imagine things getting sorted, then more letters arriving because you drove when banned etc.

So this is 'just' a court-screw-up, or there's someone out there pretending to be you?

Thanks for the replys :)
i had an email saying we have told the dvla to change it
basically they took one of the 3 year bans and changed it to a ban till december
had to call them again and say whys my licence still not clean and theres still a ban .. have to wait now because whoever sorts this at the court is in a “very important”meeting so might be tomorrow now
