First world problems ahoy! My phone just died and nothing I do gets any life out of it! Anyone on here up on phone repairs?

It's a Samsung S4 Mini so is way out of warranty and I'm not on a phone contract (I know, get a new phone!). I was planning on looking into a new phone next year, but the S4 mini has been a really good servant over the years I've had it.

It was fine one minute, switched off, then when I pressed the power button nothing. I've tried a different battery, charging it, plugging it onto the laptop and the hard reset (vol, home, power button thing), but no sign of life.

Most of my photos are on the micro SD card so should be able to get to them, but would like to get the phone working again, even if it's just temporarily until I get chance/time to look into a new one. Who can be without a phone for more than a few hours these days!

Anyone got any advice or at least know a trusted online repair centre?

Don't think it's the charging port as it was running fine all day and had plenty of battery life left - I just went to turn it on from standby and nothing happened. I guess it's something to do with the power circuitry on the main board?

The phone only cost me £119 new about 3-4 years ago so it probably is beyond the realms of economic repair (I only pay £8 per month for data/calls/texts). Just wondered if there was a known fix or reliable/cheap online company that did repairs as I don't really do phones.

Might have to look at getting a used S5 or S6 or something..

As Frankie suggests, Geek squad or a mobile repair shop may be able to help.
You could be lucky and it's a cheap repair. If the screen has gone will the S5 mini still power up?

I bought Chris's old S5 and it's been a fantastic phone. It takes SD
cards and has a swapable battery so I stuck a 128GB SD card in it and
bought a spare battery just in case.

The S6 doesn't have a SD card slot and the battery is non removable. My work phone is a S6 and there's not much real world difference to the S5. The S6 can be updated to a later version of OS but unofficially the S5 can too.

If you don't know the history of the phone then it may be worth buying a new one mate, as for what phone would be a good replacement....I have no idea!
