Bootlegs and clones and the companies that produced them are fascinating and important parts of arcade history, especially in this part of the world. I get the impression that there was less of this in the US.
Personally, I would rather own a BG Video Falcon than an "original" Centuri Phoenix imported from the US.
Phoenix was a very cloned game, lots of different cabs and romsets, there were 33 in mame the last time I checked. I'm not even sure what constitutes an original and I certainly never saw any Centuri cabs back in the day.

What does the far left marquee say? It sort of looks like the Galaxian font, but it doesn't look like it says Galaxian. I'm sure i saw the same machine in an episode of Tucker's Luck!
Me any my brother have been busy in the workshop this last month, cabs thoroughly cleaned and washed, all boards repaired, monitor chassis fixed and recapped, looms re-wired, new switch mode PSUs replacing the linear power supplies which couldn't handle the 240v > 230v drop, plenty of woodwork done where gangsters were after those pesky 10p coins, all earthed and PAT test compliant now. Had to retouch some of the peeling neon artwork as well but I need to re-visit that after honing the process. Will be in our arcade in Exeter soon.

I used to have a BG video table - bootleg Galaxians. The tables they made were the dogs dangleys. Really solid, nicely put together and looked great. I saw a pac-man table of theirs at one time. I'll see if I still have any photos, table is sadly long gone.
Yup cabs like these would normally have been stripped of their monitors and other parts to keep other "more valuable" cabs working. Which has Ironically meant that some of these old British cabs are quite rare now. We gotta keep some of our own history alive rather than just keep on importing machines from the states!
I did indeed notice that one of those old pictures has EXIF data on it, taken on an old Olympus C860, 15/02/2004. So those cabs sat in storage apparently untouched for 18 years before they came up for auction. Makes you wonder how many more unloved treasures there might still be out there!

Fantastic to see people preserving the old oddball cabinets with as much love as with the dedicated classics which the ‘collectors’ seem to prefer
Takes me back to our arcade line ups of the early 1980s I think that some games bootlegged at that time had a uniqueness of their own loved the GALAXIANS screened as - astrians -Martian marauders - galaxia- and many more
In that line up of 4 we had them all Alca stainless steel doors and shiny formica sides black ash system one two three etc to seven were variant invaders in system one galaxians in two. Pacman(puckman)(snapper) Etc in system four not long since I smashed a load of marquees and screen bezels really heavy quarter plate glass but the silk screen printing was all flaked off with age
I still have black Video World cabs sold by herondata various shapes and some had game dedicated glasses had a phoenix from new still here
Back before camera photos we used to picture ours kids playing them all now aged 35-40 and kids of their own grown up but immortalised on Kodak photographs from early 1980s and all these type of cabs feature in them
Would happily display some as they were 40 years ago … for us in small local single site operating cheap but latest games was the only way to afford the equipment tho we did have some great new and almost new second hand games
Our first midway invader cost £600 and was about a year old from hazelgrove pool at Stockport ..they occupied an old laundry building at the time but had a pool table factory unit at Heaton Mersey I had been buying e/m pinballs off them for about 2-3 years and the smell of the new assorted cabs on there showroom stand still remains
We also bought from associated leisure at Warrington they had a huge room with brand new tail gunner lunar lander and submarine periscope videos etc ironically a few years later into mid 80s I worked for them as an engineer and my lorry helped them move to a new depot at Runcorn good clear out but hundreds went in massive skips …. I was connected to ALLtd for about 11 years even tho I had my own operation they needed people for all the latest stuff on motorways services and bowling alleys , bingo halls etc their own main engineers did pub fruits and jukes etc
