So I'm almost there with the mame rebuild not least severely helped by my mate Martin with whom I would not have been able to get it running.

Faced numerous hurdles along the way and almost all sorted now.

My final major issue (for me anyway as been really getting into playing this game before the HD died) is to get the sound working on Balloon Bomber. I understand that for some of these older games (Balloon Bomber is late 70s) you need a sample file which goes in the sample folder.

I was helpfully pointed towards the main source for these by Joe34 (many thanks mate:)) but Balloon Bomber is not one of those there nor can I find it anywhere online. Looking on line it appears that this was noted as missing in the past BUT I had the sound working on my old set up so there must be either a sample file or some other way the sound is working as it did before for me.

So wondered if anyone can check please if Balloon Bomber runs with sound in their set up and if so, if there is a sample file (should be in mame/samples folder) or anything else that looks like it is the sound.

Also missing sound on The Invaders (Zaccaria) and Invaders Revenge in case that helps the Balloon Bomber missing sound.

Think sorted this in that the answer was I need a newer version of mame as could get it working on the latest version I downloaded for my pc.

Thanks to help from a couple of collectors on WA.

Yes you were right!! Sorry mate wasn't disputing your advice, as I said, I just didn't want to start again and ditch everything we'd done to get that far as journey was not smooth!

I've now added mame 224 to the cab but only set up for a few games but will replace the older version in time.

Balloon Bomber never had it's own samples, it just used invaders.zip and assumed it was the same (which is isn't but unless someone has proper schematics for it then we will never know - mind you, I assume the PS2 version is correct since it was written by Mr Mame himself (NS))

BB on the MiSTer has clouds and will have correct samples once I get them all recorded from the PS2!

Thanks Mike. All working now.

I did put Invaders sample in there originally but think the version of mame was too old to recognise it.

Never played it BITD (nor saw it afair) so my only benchmark of the sound is from my old mame set up so this is fine for me. Having said that would be interested to hear the correct sounds when you've finished:)
