Ok so I’ve got a cab on the way thanks to a guy on here but now I’m thinking of choices for mame.

I have a PI knocking about think it’s a 3 or 4 though, then there’s a choice of adapters???

I could go recalbox not sure if that’s better than PI

Or PC (seems to be the option if I want a digital marque, but maybe I should walk before I run :) )

I am a beginner to this but work in IT with a smattering of tech knowledge, appreciate any guidance!

If you've already got a Pi I'd say give it a try, you can swap between front ends and setups as easily as changing the SD card and if it's not what you want you can easily sell on the adapter. I've always been a PC + GroovyMAME guy but that comes with its own headaches if you want to start hiding Windows, etc to get a true arcade experience.

Happy to help if I can.

To me would also depend on your monitor if CRT or LCD etc and how much you want to mess with it.

There are some nicer pi5 images now too.
I personally run a sff with a nvidia card for my 2 player 6 button lcd cab. Horizontal. I install coinops on that. Rtype and streetfighter are great on that !
Then I run a pi 3b for my 14" CRT vertical cab. that is perfect for DK and Pacman etc.

The pi has never broken :), windows once SET up works fine ......

Think I’ll try Pi and pi2jamma first as I’ve got my pi and only want to play 3 button games around the late 80s early 90s era.

Not sure what image to put on, just want a clean interface, will only be putting my fave 20 games on, I don’t want scrollers choice killing me. May even just set it to auto boot one game and then change that now and again if possible

Which pi do you have in it?

Which software image do you use?

Like the way it’s got built in fan case and low latency
Pi5 but works with 3 and 4 and I use their software. I think you you are stuck with their software, unless anybody knows otherwise. Pretty sure it has a feature that lets you boot up straight into a chosen game and not a menu also which is nice.

Software seems to be the same features as their regular front end do you can give it a try and see if it does what you want.

After some pros and cons please. I have a pc ready to put in my cab. It's an i5 12400f, 32gb ddr4, and a gtx 1660. I've got a 500gb nvme and a 1tb hd in it. I really want it to boot straight in and only be used as an arcade. Got an ips led monitor arriving imminently, so not after the authentic crt experience.

So thinking a batocera image on the nvme? But is there a recommended image?

Can i get some pre built hyperspin images?

No idea what launchbox etc are like.

Appreciate any tips.

Id personally slap windows on it and use a coinops build , I personally find it easier to troubleshoot etc. If you want a coinops build let me know as have most of them.
