boardmaster 4000

Hi all new member here with a problem updating a boardmaster 4000 to version 3.10 from 2.10

on power up the screen shows version 3.10 but also say SELFTEST FAIL- NON- RELEASE sorry for the caps.. any one know how to clear this problem thanks for any help in advance. The unit works fine when i put the old 2.10 roms back in also changed the lcd rom from 1.01 to 1.02 dont think there is any change in this also noticed on running the 3.10 version there was a line overlap on the

lcd screen half way down look forward to hearing any suggestions, Thanks all.

Tell us what ROMs you used to replace the 2.10 variants, and what type of burner you used to write to them.

Hi the roms i used were st 27c2001 and 27c1001 which is what is in it running v2.10 the burner

was dataman 48lv.

Is there more to the upgrade than just updating the eproms (some GAL's or PAL's maybe)?

Hi no just the roms as far as i know other people have done this upgrade with no problems ....

Thats why i dont do the lotto ..

You sure all the roms are changed correctly? Sounds like the self test is detecting something is mismatched to me.

hi , yes there is only one way really, put them in wrong and there cooked !

after the fail selftest a warning comes after you hit a button saying somthing like ABI electronics only support official products bla bla.... so dont think there in wrong...

I would run a checksum on the eproms and compare to the checksum on the binary images, just to be sure the images are being burned correctly.

hi The burner auto compares the rom with the files after burning , also have used this for years loading files for burning without any problems so i dont think the problem is anything i have done but been wrong before and will again... i was thinking it may be to do with the time keeper ram would it have to redone but i cant see why cause theres nothing in the upgrade txt with the files about it also says upgrade for versions above 2.xx of which mine is... its a mystery.

Where did you get the Upgrade ROM images from?

I think the EPROM sizes is the problem.

27C1001 = 1 Mbit

27C2001 = 2 Mbit

You need 2 x 2 Mbit EPROMs for V3.10.

update now working but the lcd still has overlap in the center line any ideas?

Did you update the LCD rom? Also in the zip file. Or at least the one that I've seen...

hi yes just after doing that no differance at all file seem to be the same as the one in it size wise anyway v 1.01 was in it new one didnt make any change to it..

Hi. Go into the config menu and go to the screen option. It's either set to backlit or reflective. Change it to the other setting and the overlap should go away. I'm guessing you've got an earlier reflective model?

hi trm ye that was the problem came across it by accident the other day new version has more options masterlink is now the to but it looks for a new decoder wonder it this can still be got and the software for it cant seem to get the hyperlink to work at all to upload files.

Hi got that going needed to make up a new lead no standard lead will do copied wiring off the manual cheers.
