Can somebody please give me a quick reminder on CHD file usage?

I like to use a non-merged set so I can simply delete anything I don't want.

My understanding was that a CHD is a CHD and you don't need a merged/nonmerged/split set of CHDs?

Also whilst I'm here if somebody could advise of CHD placement that would be great, just dumped in the Roms folder is what seems to come to mind?

Thanks ZedEx,

I'm not very good at wording my questions on here

What I mean is do I need to match my non-merged ROMs with non-merged CHDs or is one CHD set the same as another since they are separate from the Roms anyway?

Erm, tbh I'm not 100%, the chd is still rom files, just a differnet storage medium, so would depend on the platform, if PSX based mostly the same base operating roms, but every game has its own chd, and I think that's the same for the Street fighter 3 games that use chds.

So the roms merged or not I don't think make a difference as long as mame finds the correct ones needed, I don't think there's such a thing as a merged chd.

if you are going for a split set you can only do that with the standard zipped rom files.

The downloaded CHDs games are merged.

Some CHD games use a combination of CHD + zipped rom files, other games are CHD only.

Thanks Both,

So I'm using a non-merged (not merged or split) collection of Roms. Is it okay to use the Merged Set of CHDs with this? I'm assuming yes since I've not come across a non-merged set of CHDs before.
