I don't have the first clue how to help you but here is RETROREPAIR selling a upgrade from Type 1 to 3 kit

http://www.ukvac.com/forum/fs-chihiro-type-3-512mb-dimm-network-board_topic338578.html

MO sells these for £80 at videotronics, a bit overpriced that one IMO

The only thing I can think is something simple like the VGA cable is passing too close to the PSU or base fan or something? The VGA connector on a Chihiro is located on a different side to a Naomi so maybe you've re-routed the cable in a way it doesn't like..??

This sounds ridiculous I know, but I did have some very strange picture problems once when I was testing and had the cable accidentally draped over the FFB drive board!

Have you tried putting the Naomi back to confirm it still works as before ?

Worth also switching VGA cables and psu from your naomi just in case there are any issues here! simple things to try, you might get lucky.

Otherwise snap some pics of the internal setup so we can see how you have it all wired up.

There is one workaround to this, you could swap the monitors around in the cabs, both the same size if I remember, also while doing so if they are the same parts test the chassis's out on both tubes to see if you can help identify possible issues.

Id try to adjust the horizontal hold on the chassis before swapping monitors out, IIRR its VR442 marked H.Hold near the video input on the chassis.

It should be factory set and have some sealant on, if that's been picked off you know someone's been nobbing around with it.

Chihiro is a slightly different frequency to Naomi, IIRR theres about 0.5Khz difference. It should work on your 29E31S but it doesn't need to be out much to cause a problem.

Hope this helps

erm, id stop adjusting random pots seeing has you've been adjusting the facotry set HV level!

Have you been adjusting the H Hold pot while you can see the picture ? IE with a mirror?

You've got little chance if you are moving it a bit then having a look, also someone helping you is normally a nightmare unless they are clued up.

Other than that if youve tried another VGA cable it looks like a chassis fault. Just watch it with the VGA cables as some have various grounds connected and others dont. They arent all the same which doesnt cause a problem on PC stuff but does on amusement equipment. I've never had a problem with any Sega hardware though so it's a long shot.

hi , yeh i have give up with messing with the monitor now, i have put the naomi 2 back in and it works fine, i did not have to alter the setting it worked straight away

yes ihad a mirror when i was adjusting the monitor , i have tried another vga lead i dont have any more to try but the one in the cab would not work with the chihiro , and the one on my pc monitor gave the same results, but worked fine when i connected it to a lcd screen.

i have another monitor in my naomi cab and the chihiro syncs with that . so im gonna swop the monitors over at some point, just waiting for martin do deliver another daytona 2 so i can take the steering from it and swop it all over at the same time :)

many thanks for your help and everybody else who tried

cheers paul

All very strange..

Make sure the monitor in the Naomi upright is a Sanwa too before swapping. If it's a Nanao you'll need a differrent monitor bezel once it goes in the iD cab as the two monitors have different screen curvatures.

Not a big problem but it would be a PIA if you only found out after all the trouble of swapping monitors!
