I was there last year and had a LOT of fun, met some interesting people
and had a drink with Matthew Smith.

Count me in!

I remember it well. A good day out, that was.

I think it's at the Blackheath Halls in South London this year, quite easy
to get to IIRC even if you're coming from up North.

I'll be there.

It was cool last year. Rememeber a very "doped" Matt Smith....
Lot's of retro stuff and Arcades, well of course!!
I heard Rav was going and lending some machines for the competetion.
Is that true Rav?

Here's a link to the site:-
http://www.cgeuk.com/location.php

It's at the same place as last year, Fairfield in Croydon.

See you there,
Dave.

I am taking machines indeed - narrowly - they've been so crap at
organising I told them I was pulling out. The high score event was
supposed ot be sponsored by retroKade, but THEY omitted it from their
posters and adverts so it did leave me wondering why I should bother...

...but... With the new building falling thru (again), its a chance to
show off some machines.

So far we're taking uDot (for JT high-score attack), Andy's Space
Harrier (his is better than mine ;P) and I believe Archer is bringing
a Missile Command for the UK centred high score attempts.

I'm bringing a Galaxian, if lucky, two for the head-to-head us/uk
galaxian challenge. Thats *IF* I get time ot build up a second midway
cab!

I'm bringing along a surprise game that should have a even playing
field so *anyone* can have a chance at getting a high score :) Now,
just to think what kinda prize I should award... Oh if only i could
have found a dedicated world cup 90 cab for this one, hehe!

For the twin galaxies high score attempt (not that I see much UK
people gearing up for it), I'm providing Galaga, Joust, Roby (will be
a UK with wicos). If shipments arrive in time the kung-fu master will
be available, otherwise its mame for that! Millipede is still under
inmvestigation. At worst it could be mame/pcb in my centy cab or I
believe Archer has one??

Lastly I'm bringing some more modern machine to *try* and take a few
quid to pay for the sodding van hire as these guys dont pay shite!

Despite other press releases, forum posts, I am unaware that anyone is
bringing Donkey Kong, Pac-Man or whatever else people 'think' will be
there, although I am tempted to take a defender along if
Chad/Langley/Motty are going :) Indeed, I could have a go for the
rally-x high-score myself!

Still, it'll be good for shits and giggles I guess, pulling out would
just lead to more bad press than good. Hope to see you all there -
brign spare pcbs for the above-mentioned games ;)

Regards,

Rav

Re: [ukvac] Re: Classing Gaming Expo?
are you bringing along a Namco Galaxian?

I really need to get some photos/scans of the
bezel/cpo/marquee to vectorize and repro for my cab

unless you have already done it? ;)

Yep - Archer and I are bringing my Missile Command machine down
(which he restored) to the event - along with others I understand.
I'm gunning for the MC WR on tournament settings at the event.

Sorry to hear about the lack of organisation Rav - I too am
concerned about the apparent lack of interest from UK players keen
to be involved in the Twin Galaxies tournament - I can't help
thinking its going to be rather embarrassing as these guys are
coming over from the US expecting some sort of cometition. I've
asked Chris at CGEUK about this, but didn't get much of a reply -
there doesn't seem to be too much noise about it on the CGEUK
website - oh well....

Look forward to seeing you on the day.

To get any sort of competition between the US and UK guys you all need to
pray and hope the old UKVAC crew come out of hiding.

We need Ian Boffin, Chad Gray, Dave Langley and all that lot as otherwise I
do feel it will be embarrassing.

If egg decides to go and there's a Defender i'm sure he could embarass them
though

Well yes exactly - I spoke to Walter Day and Bill Mitchell from Twin
Galaxies on the phone about some other things on Monday night, and
they gave me the impression that they are "pumped" (as they put it
in typical US enthusiasm) about the competition - so fingers need to
be pulled out I think, if they are expected to do this again. I'm
surprised, because its quite a result to get these guys to come
over - its adding a lot of credibility to the event. I would have
thought more enthusiasm would have been put in by the organisers to
get more interest in this. Unless it is there - I'm just not seeing
it.

THEY chose the games BTW...

Aaaaanyway...

Re: [ukvac] Re: Classing Gaming Expo?
They need to be very careful. I have seen no adverts for this so far
except on their own website. Did they have anything in retrogamer???

If the yanks come over and end up playing with themselves, then it
will leave next years event open to slightly more speculation (and
less attendees)..

I just hope Chris can learn from last years event and not have it as
pretty much a retro carboot sale (with a bar).. not that I could have
done any better or suggesting he hasnt pulled his finger out.

Mike,

"yanks come over and end up playing with themselves" -
not what we want really - LOL, especially if there's children
present... ;-)

Seriously, though, COME ON, we can't let the big U S of A kick us can
we??? They'll never let it down, it'll be in the news and
everything!! :)

GO GO HIGH SCORING UKACCers - LET's KICK ARSE(ASS)!!!

Cheers,
Dave.

Has anyone actually considered for a second that aside from the
aforementioned people, who god only knows whether they still read this
list or not (MOST of the older names naffed off yonks ago now), MAYBE,
there aren't many brits interested because quite simply the brits are
crap at high scores??

It's quite possible you know!

BTW - I'm at home now. Thanks for asking, but what's that got to do with owt?!
