Tech help needed.....

So I know nothing about "Thin Client" PCs.

Can one of these be used as a standard PC in my Mame Cabinets?

Can I install a 32 Bit Windows XP on them?

Windows Embedded Standard 7 would be a good system to move to from 32 Bit Windows XP?

The processor is AMD. Is that OK?

The graphics are AMD Radeon HD 6250. Good?

There is a seller on Ebay with brand new ones for £39 though they are out of warranty.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I used to install hundreds of these Wyse terminals for banks and government. But that was over a decade ago when I was an IT contractor.

(**long answer with my memory from 10 years ago ***As far as I can recall these were thin client machines which connected to a server via Citrix and had the data pushed the down to the client (the small thing that the user hooks a keyboard, mouse and monitor to).

Nothing was on the local "machine", (hence the thin part) nothing to configure either (again, on the Citrix server or equivalent pushing it down) and this allowed it to use hardly any power or multiple components)

** short answer **

No. It's not powerful enough for MAME. Some things may be, but it would be a ballache trying to put a decent windows OS on there instead of embedded. You can try, but I would steer clear and have a look at a thread that one UKVACer has put up selling some small form factor (not as small as thin client) PCs.

Linux might go on there (the thin client I'm talking about here), but then you'd be spending all your time trying to configure that for the client and then for MAME.

Hope this saves you some pain and dosh

p.s. Thanks for the PM updating me about the Arcade Flyers book

Thanks for the reply but too late! I have ordered two already.

I have seen a video on Youtube of someone installing Windows XP on it. If I can do that, it will be good enough. On the video they were playing a high graphics game, Medal of Honor I think. Surely it will be OK to run a front end and mame then.

Watch this space....
