at the end of the plan you have to wear retainers for 22 hours per day for 6 months and then you can wear the retainers at night only. These companies also do a night only plan btw

my teeth were pretty wonky and now they are virtually perfect, I am now on the retainer phase

as far as i am aware most braces take at least a year so it will be about same amount of time as the aligners but i saved at least 3k, maybe more

this is the company i used

Thanks for that very interesting.

Where the hell are you all going? I have problem teeth, have had since my first baby teeth, some lack of something while my mum was pregnant with me.

I have an NHS dentist and the top band is less than 300 for a full course of treatment. That has covered removals, fillings, root canals, caps, veneers, dentures, etc. How are you all paying over a grand for one thing? Private dentists? The only thing mine can't do is implants. I know they are permanent, but 2k or more per tooth with my history is mental and a full set is about 30k.

I claim all mine back now through a Bupa Dental plan at work, so costs me nothing really.

My dentist isn't far from me, in Kimberworth Park, Rotherham. There are a fair few NHS dentists around me though.

If you are on benefits then I think you get most, if not all, of it for free. If you work, like me, then there are 3 bands. The first is for a checkup and £20 something. The second covers basic stuff like fillings and I think simple extractions. I'm not sure how much that one is. The third covers everything else like dentures, caps, root canals, etc. That one is just under 300.

Your treatment runs from the checkup to doing whatever you need that they find in the checkup. I pay the checkup fee up front after the checkup, then the balance when the treatment is done.

If you go a lot, you could look into something like a Bupa plan or Westfield, so you can claim some or all the money back, for a monthly fee. Luckily we have a work Bupa Dental plan, so work pays the monthly fees for that and I just submit claims to Bupa for the money back, when I have stuff done.

I've had loads done in the past and I suppose one up side is that I can break a tooth and feel nothing now. I'm not sure if I have a complete tooth or nerve left. I did get an abscess once though and that felt like I'd been shot in the face.

Probably trying to rinse you of your money. Ask to see what their NHS bands are and what they cover, they should have it in writing somewhere. My dentist has big posters on the wall with all the info on. Maybe compare that with other dentists around you, if there are any taking on NHS patients.
