Sorry to post this on UKVAC but I know that one or two of you are in the jukebox game. I sent PM to Gordon (jengineer) just now but figured it was worth putting a general distress call out!
I'm having some weird amp issues all of which seem to be associated with digital sound sources being used as an auxiliary input.
The problem seems to be that whenever I play music from my iphone or a pc through my amps (it's not just one), the sound fades out when the music is quiet and then kicks back in when it's louder. I have turned the volume up on my digital devices and that seems to solve the problem but then that creates problems getting the sound balance right.
The thing is I am having this same issue with:
Amp in my NSM Juke 2000 CD (which I sold last week so it's no longer an issue on that one but I do intend to buy myself another NSM and run digital sound through it and it'll probably be a 5 or 5.1 I buy since as they tend to be the cheaper ones!).
The amp that I took out of that Sound Leisure Sound Surfer (SL MK 7) I had off Gordon just before Christmas (that I sorted out for my mate for a Christmas pressie for his mam)
The amp in a Sound Leisure Video Surfer (SL MK 7) I picked up for £200 off Ebay.
It's not speaker a issues - I have tried 3 different pairs of speakers on the amps.
It's not speaker cable issue - I have used 2 different pairs of speaker wires
It's not a sound source issue - It's the same with my iPhone, laptop and 4(!) different PCs I've used.
It's not an input cable issue - I have tried 2 different 3.5mm to 2 X phono leads and I even bought a 3.5mm to din plug lead that was advertised as being Sound Leisure equipment compatible on Ebay (though it only seems to work on the Mic socket on the SL amps and not the aux input where I would have expected it to).
It's not one or two corrupt files - Lots of them are fine, it's just the ones that have patches of "quietness" in them that are the worst
It's not a particular type of sound file - I tried MP3, MP4, MP4a, AAC versions of one album that seemed to have big issues (25 - Adele - lots of quiet ballads on that one) but they all play the same. I even tried playing the CD version of the album on the PC
It may sound a dumb and newbie type question but I am wondering if jukebox amplifiers have a certain "minimum volume threshold" below which they are unable to properly play the sound/music? Or perhaps some kind of safety cut off (though I would have thought that would be a maximum limit rather than lower limit)?
Sorry to post on UKVAC and go off topic but I don't really want to sign up to a jukebox forum when it's not really my main hobby - just thought I would try it in case someone had a quick answer - it's driving me crazy!
Cheers
Andy
