Does a decent budget drill press exist?

This is kind of offon topic I guess.

I've been pondering getting a drill press for ages, but can't really justify spending a huge amount on one. Looking for a little benchtop one. There seems to be quite a selection out there, with budget ones almost always 350w, so wonder if this is going to be powerful enough for some things. Interested to know what people have and can recommend, or avoid.

Cheers!

I got a cheap one years ago, it's fine for some stuff, but the wobble on the chuck is terrible - really low precision. Ever since I got it I've been looking for a good second hand one at the right price.
If I get a mo I'll dig out what brand it was.

Chuck wobble does seem to be a common complaint with the cheap ones. I'm tempted by this Bosch one that gets pretty good reviews, but even with the reduced price at Homebase, it's a bit too pricey for me. Dunno, I may still go for it.

Maybe i just got a duff one. I did one cp with it. Then didnt touch it. By the time i turned it on for the next one it was useless.

I'm considering ripping mine in bits to see if I can beef up the bearings on the spindle to try and stop the chuck wandering all over the place. But I have enough jobs to do without trying to build reliable tools as well.

Think it's the usual story of 'you get what you pay for'. Silverline tools are known to be cheap and (sometimes no so) cheerful.

For sure. Maybe it was just a duff one.
