An IPTV ring got taken down in the Manchester area recently, maybe pick one of the many advertising on FB as they seem to be more India based and so less likely to be taken down? I keep thinking about getting a sub, but then I don't watch TV as it is anyway.

Solid as a rock mine, been with them over 10 years now. Just keeps getting better. A decent free VPN thrown in as well a free movie app. Not used that though so cant vouch for the app.

so my current sub with my firestick runs out tomorrow, just tried my lads one which is a different provider and the different in quality is shocking, i guess the old adage of "you get what you pay for rings true here"

tbh if you have prime anyway and legally share your netflix its not too bad. i then if needed wait for a dealon disney or paramount. i feel a refund is needed for the last season of tulsa...

shame no party provided cheaper 4k rips legally. i find some a lot better than streaming. i personally like to keep a collection on a hardrive so there when i want to watch it. most of my bought dvds went through a ripper. 4k disks are so expensive i dont own any, and have nothing to rip them with either. i think my xbox plays them but that hware is not as good as a dedicated player, which are still very expensive.

I agree, it's expensive. However, I'd note that there are often sales and (for example) Amazon fuckups (that they must honor, but are increasingly rare) on UHD BR that bring the cost far closer to the £12-15 that it should be for a brand new film.

I have always found the 'economy' of the 'DVD Extra' weird, as I literally do not give a flying fuck about anything (and some of them are excellent ... like there was a whole second Anchorman film before ... the second Anchorman film!) beyond the film that I want to watch and have the ability to watch again.

If you absolutely MUST pepper the world with this shit (again, not necessarily in quality), then offer the OPTION to a consumer to have more affordable access to the film on its own, at the same quality as the 'main release' copy, just without the extras.

Anyway ... I dye cress ...
Similarly ... almost every single CEX store has a (growing) UHD section, and they often turn up in charity stores ... so it's worth nipping into them when you're walking down the high-street at lunch time.

Equally, there are places onIine for UHD film purchasing offering at/near/better than UHD BR quality. To my mind there are two sources that I can *immediately* think of that provide high-bitrate sources:

Getting them ... though ... requires more investment, I feel, but both offer bitrates equal to UHD BR and sometimes beyond.

Any Sony televisions (doesn't need to be their top of the range ones) are often far superior to other TVs in their class and will come with the BRAVIA CORE service, whereby one can purchase films to own for good. The Kaleidescape service is a specific hardware software ecosystem and you keep your digital copies, and those copies are yours to maintain.

The main downside is the high cost of these options (particularly the latter) but it should also be noted that Sony (VERY weirdly, imo) do *NOT* provide similarly high quality, high definition, sound. Similarly, there's also the nuclear 'Amazon Book Deletion' potential of Sony (less so Kaleidescape, I feel) to just say that unfortunately they can no longer allow you to have a copy of a film ... anywhere.

Equally, there is the option of just making rips (questionable legality depending on locale?) of ones own UHD disc (which can be automated) and using a CoreELEC device that has a legal Dolby Vision licence already on it to play things back perfectly (either locally from connected storage or from a NAS/SMB source) without any transcoding required.

This will retain the FULL visual and audio quality of the disc (or whatever your preferred encode level is - perhaps wise in today's storage price apocalypse) for your viewing pleasure.

The benefit of this over a 'service' (think P L E X, etc) is that you won't have the (predictable) rug pull which can (dependent on one's capacity to break 'easy service charges' etc) end up costing a bomb.

Plus, you will sleep easier from a 'data' POV in that everything is contained locally, no phone-home, no data on some server, somewhere. If you get super paranoid, you can even remove the worry that someone may fingerprint via film/tv DB API requests (or scraping actions) from add-ons ... by way of separating out that function to wherever you rip from and housing said film data in a .nfo text file adjacent to a given film file.

I'm not saying any of this as some weird online 'uhm actually' because I totally agree with you ... I'm just trying to think of a few ways in which one can afford to have some semblance of a relationship with the cinematic arts in the modern world without either losing one's wad ... or getting stabbed because you shushed the wrong person in the cinema. 😏
