Hi guys,
Have a few items selling on e-bay atm

most of my listings are advertised as cash on collection

however im getting a lot of people wanting to send couriers and pay via paypal, cheque, bankers draft

what is a good/safe way to accept payment from a buyer.

im not happy taking £800 via paypal, then item collected via courier, only then to be pursued if it gets damaged, never mind the feking fees etc

any help much appreciated guys

Bank transfer is safe enough these days, bankers draft, cheque is ok too but obviously will have to wait for it to cash before release. Any of the above are safe and can't be recalled. I wouldn't take Payscam for anything over £100 unless I know the person well enough.

Andy.

Never mind that, think of the fees!!

Unfortunately, I think when it comes to eBay, especially for cabs you need to insist buyer collects, not a courier. Then cash on collection as you have already indicated.

Don't accept anything other than cash on collection. Clearly state "No couriers"

That way you can show it working, and they can give you money

Sad thing is most people want to sit on their arse, order from the internet, answer the door 3 days later and sign for it. No one wants to pick up any more, this is why Martin is always busy.

I've had an item pulled from fleebay once because I stated 'no paypal'. Apparently if you sell on ebay today you are obligated to accept paypal. I'll buy on ebay, but selling is a huge pain in the ass.

Reasons to hate ebay.

I'll start.

1. Buyers with unrealistic expectations

Here's a gem from this morning. God I hate selling stuff on ebay. Buyer has bought a used external drive from me, it's half price and almost new.

Buyer:

Dear x,That is really very very disappointing that I have to wait a week before the item will actually be posted. I was going by the 3 working days stated in your listing, hoping to receive this and back up my failing server. I really don't understand why you could not let me know beforehand until I inquired.Really Disappointed.

Me (after checking completed listing):

Hi there,
I just checked the completed listing and the listing says delivery estimate is 6-8 days. This is usually because in my listings (and I seldom sell stuff because of the sheer pain of ebay) I allow 2-3 days handling and 3-5 days shipping. This is because I'm not a shop and I have a busy job and a family. If you are really relying on a purchase such as this which it sounds like you are, then I really do suggest that you go to a shop or to amazon and get it next day, paying *twice* as much.
If you are in a bind, let me know today and I will refund you, so that you can go and do that.
If would be a day earlier, but the bank holiday gets in the way.
regards

i just had the exact same thing happen to me with a buyer on ebay but with some car parts a sold and my reply was almost the same. i.e i have a life and am not a shop

some people think that we are just sitting around waiting for the auctions to end so we can go running down the post office

and another one are the buyers that moan about the cost of postage where as most of the time i end up paying more to post than what i quote and the price does not include the cost of packing materials and carting all the stuff down to the post office in the car!

Yeah, they should buy it new and pay the full price if they want it next day, if you were as a business then I could understand their comment, muppet
