Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Not another one, I am member of the NPS (National Pier Society) this was one of the best examples left of Eugenius Birch (he built West Pier Brighton too). Gutting I really hope its not totally done for.

I remember the pier at Cleethorpes being put up for auction sometime over the past year or two & I don't think it sold, can't remember what it was expected to sell for but I do remember it being less than I expected, would be so great to own one if the lotto numbers came up

I'm gutted, this is very bad. Here's a copy and paste of post on J+:
There were a few machines. A nice Sega Rally sit-down and an Afterburner Climax were probably the best machines.
I was out with the boy in the park. Saw a giant plume of smoke across the whole sky, could hear sirens and see helicopters. Thought some heavy sh*t was going down. Launched the BBC news app on my phone to see the main headline was Eastbourne Pier. It's very sad to see the news footage. Town's chockablock as the seafront is closed off around the pier.
My son (nearly 5 years old) who loves going on the pier was just in tears watching the news. It's really very sad to see.

This is very sad indeed.

The Pier's are part of our seaside history, and too many have burnt in recent years...

I've moved to Teignmouth recently and it's nice to see the original wooden pier. It re-opened for the first time a few days ago after repairs had been completed from the storm damage. Quite a few have been lost to fire over the years...I can't imagine what they must be feeling in Eastbourne, it's a piece of history that can't be replaced. Very sad indeed.

Totally mate, I've only really been on Blackpools 3 but it's a novel feeling walking down them.
Fingers crossed they can save most of it.
Oops I was wrong about no arcades! it was the arcade that went up in flames. The firefighters did an amazing job to section off the fire to just that part and not have the front and end of the pier taken too! I am sure the local community will all pull together to get the pier back.

Well, it's strongly suspected now... If it was they gotta find the guy and throw the book at him. That's outrageous. To set fire to the Pier with people on it is just mind blowingly stupid!
