I have two old faulty graphics cards that I use on an old PC to play games running on Windows XP software. I still enjoy playing the games on my old system. Disaster struck today when my Gforce 6800 ultra AGP went faulty. It will show the bios screens with vertical lines, windows start up screen, but then cuts out before going to desk top. I have another 6800 GS OC that does boot but displays major graphics errors in 3D applications.

Does anyone fix or reflow these professionally anymore? Can they be repaired? Not many around and those that are, are insanely priced. It would mean a lot to get my system back up and running once again.

Had a look around at methods of heat gunning the GPU but decided it would be prohibitively expensive to send mine away to do this properly.

Then had a browse on EBay and located, what is now an old, but for a Windows XP system extremely rapid PC running on Windows XP for £50. The GPU is 2GB while my GeForce 6800 Ultra is 256MB. Everything else on the PC is way higher spec than my original computer so it makes no sense to go down the repair route. I just need to find a way of transferring the game data from my old PC on to this new one.

I had my PC for about 20 years and bought and constructed the best system I could for the time - I guess it has done ok in its lifetime.

I used to do them , You can rework or reball but the cost would outway the value of the card. Most times I reworked as reballing is a pain in the arse and it could fail just as quick again.

I spotted your post last night and had a look in my pile as I am sure I had a 6800 or something around that but could not find it. If I do find it you can have it for postage as no good to me. Spare one for you then.

Dave,
Thanks for the offer, it’s appreciated. It’s no trouble. I only used the PC for running the EPROM programmer, looking at repair manuals and playing the odd old game on. I think this system I bought is going to blitz the performance of the old one and relegate my old PC to the recycling farm.
