Fitting T-Moulding when the groove is damaged

Hi,

I have a section on my Asteroids cocktail where the T-moulding won't stay in as the groove it slots into is too big/crumble away.

Unfortunately it's on the 'bendy' section to the right of the control panel so just gluing it hasn't really held it in place. Has anyone successfully filled the slot in any way that's held the T-Moulding in place?

You could fill the gap with grip fill or wood filler and then re- route the slot with a t molding bit.

Ah ok, so essentially fill it and then route it ... does it hold together when routing once filled like that?

I guess filling it and then just painting it black would look better than the bare and damaged wood.

Yeah I'd go with car body filler & re-route. Hot glue gun and tape in place while it sets....

I've found the odd sneaky very fine tack here and there that look like they were factory on a couple of cabs!

If you don't want to fanny around with filler, I've cut a strip of cardboard out before now and slotted that in the groove, then put the t molding in next to it, to get it to grip and stay put.

id treat the area with wood glue to prevent further crumbling then use wood filler if needed. a dremel works ok for short sections if you dont have a slot cutter.

heating the tmoulding with a hairdrier helps it bend and mold to the cab contours

wouldn't hot glue anything in as it will give problems if you ever need to remove it.
