Games not appearing in mame list

Hi

I've almost finished setting up my new mame cab set up (after HD failure - see other post) with many thanks to my mate Martin who's been a great help and could not have done without and also Chunskin's image.

The rom list I had with the version of mame I'm using (106) was missing a few so I found the zip files on planet emulation and wowroms.

When I added these to the roms folder and then refreshed the main games list only about a third of the roms I'd added appeared on the list so for some reason not being recognised by mame.

I've tried different versions of the roms (downloaded from different sites) but some just won;t work.

Is there some setting in mame that's preventing these from being recognised or if the roms are from a different version of mame which is causing the problem how can I get ones for 106 (can't find on a search).

For example two of the games I'm having trouble with are Astro Wars and Vega.

I don't want to upgrade to a different version of mame as 99% of everything is fine and don't want to risk buggering up all the work done to get this far!!

Cheers in advance for any help

Greg

It's illegal to play ROMs you don't own - so fetch the ROMs for the 106 romset from Pleasuredome and delete the ones you don't own cabs and PCBs for. It looks like there are currently 28 seeders.

Thanks.

Do you think the reason that it's not working is the wrong mame version associated with the rom or something else? Seems odd how some roms worked and some didn't.

Depends whether the driver renamed, switched out parent sets and the like in between the version you have and the version the roms were organised for Greg

I know you said you don't want to upgrade your version of mame, but 106 is really ancient and there have been a hell of a lot of additions and improvements since then.
You really should be on Groovymame .224

Not only that, if you have used Chunksin's build and replaced the mame executable, there will be issues with the mismatch of the latest calamity drivers and your old version of groovymame's switchres.

If you sent me a a drive I would be happy to fill it and return it !

It's only a few I'm missing so unless I have major problems with my set up, think I'm happy with what I have and wouldn't want to do anything illegal!!
