The sinden puts a white box around the image and then uses video processing to work out what the gun is pointing at. Aimtrak looks like a telly-top sensor affair.

So Sinden looks good if you're running MAME and don't mind a white border around the image.

And someone managed to get a million quid in backing to prevent someone having a sensor on a TV.

Worlds gone f#*king mad!

Glad you’re pleased with your purchase though.

Yes, I did notice he’d got over a million quid! Big money in this retro lark, it seems.
Not for me either - I prefer my enormous CRTs and PS2, but nice that it’s good.

On the other hand, here is a guy who has had a good idea, worked it all out for himself, spent loads of time on designing and prototyping etc, and had the bollocks to see it all through to production - I love it when I see things like this working out...

Better this than someone getting hundreds of thousands in compensation because they are traumatised by someone referring to them by the wrong pronoun, which seems to be a very profitable way of getting ahead in the current world...

I’d agree with you on some of this. Yes good idea, yes did the work designing and prototyping fair play.

But had the bollocks to see it through to production? Hmmm

Having real balls would be going to a bank and saying I’ve got this great idea here’s my market research lend me a million quid and I’ll take the risk.

I’ve never thought this fund me or whatever was anymore than someone who didn’t want to back themselves taking a gamble with someone else’s money. I’m actually amazed anyone does it.

Not that it’s the guys fault, and I wasn’t saying the chap who designed it was at fault here he’s obviously designed something people want.

But why on earth would people pay someone a million quid for someone to have a punt on it? I just never understood the concept of go fund me.

As I say, fair play to the guy glad he’s got something going that works it must be an immense sense of pride.

I’m just shocked the removal of the sensor bar is valued as a million pound idea.neoretro2020-09-18 15:15:03

Its not just about the removal of the sensor bar.

The sensor bar IR guns have issues, They are not 100% accurate and do not track well between people of differing heights once they have been calibrated.

The sinden does not suffer from any of those issues and can be used at any height or angle without loosing the calibration.

Also the calibration is a 1 time affair, much like a arcade light gun once its calibrated you can just pick up and play.

I am really interested on seeing how you get on ad fancy one myself. There is a great pc build just with light gun games I hope they add sinden support. Are you running mame on a pi or pc. Also I cannot tell from videos of how easy that border is and if tricky to set up etc or just works with any set up. Could you explain how set up went please

This, aimtrak can be a total pain in the arse to set up, infact I could never get past calibration with one on my TV, you also get jitter with them, there are homebrew guns that do a better job than aimtrak.

Do any of the available lightgun setups ape the arcade arrangement of IR units all around the screen?
Seems to work well enough in arcades, although I suppose it might be a faff to do around a home telly.

I have done a whole series of videos to help setup and few gameplay and test videos for anyone who is interested.
The MAME one covers the actual sinden software the rest are a combo of emulator and gameplay.
