Hantarex 900E (US) that takes an age to warm up. After a couple of mins displays picture like this:

Give it half an hour and it looks like this (big improvement, but still blurred):

Give it another hour and it gives a pin sharp picture.

B+ is spot on straight from power on and doesn't change as the picture improves. Anyone got any clues?

I know it's a totally different monitor, but I had a similar problem on a GO7 for a "while".

Finally tracked it down to the CRT socket, see this thread:

Hope that helps.

You could be right.

I 'fixed' this problem once already:

Lasted a few weeks and then started playing up again. I'll go back in ohm the focus wire - you're explanation seems more likely than mine. I'll report back.

Cheers.

Quick update on this. Pulled the chassis this evening. Removed the plastic insulation covering focus wire. Measured resistance to ground - about a megohm .....

This is what I found inside the insulation cover:

Copper carbonate.

Desoldered focus wire from pin - bad news, the pin was so corroded that it snapped off. Desolderd the socket from neck card and opened the whole thing up. Rank with corrosion. Here's the focus pin itself:

So ... did toy with the idea of trying to clean it all up and soldering the focus wire onto what was left of the focus pin. Decided against as I have a scrap GO7 chassis which, funnily enough, uses the exact same socket. So desoldered that and stuck it on the Hantarex neck card.

I've run out of bloody solder so finishing it off will have to wait a couple of days. Optimistic this will sort the issue though. I wonder why the whole thing was so hideously corroded. The rest of it all looks in good order. Very odd.
