Hi all,

Arcade lover here currently own nothing, buying a small cottage so only room for one cabinet. Thinking on multi system rather than one original and then buying and selling to rotate it or the pcb.

I think the old 80s style upright cabinets are best for me for nostalgia and space and I used to want two player 6 buttons but if I forget street fighter and focus more on Kungfu master golden axe double dragon track n field etc I think 3 each is fine and cleaner.

Obvs I want a CRT in it, but then should the guys be a mistercade or Picade or something else?

Any ideas on what I should do and where to source? Or should I just hunt down a track and field and play that until I get bored 😂

Hi and welcome aboard.
You've obviously done some research as you've ended up here and seem to have a decent idea of what you want.

I would put a post up on the wanted section, for a woody jamma cab.
There a few different common shapes and sizes, so take your time and don't necessarily go for the first one you find.

Full size, midi, or cabaret. Different monitor positions. Colour aesthetics too.

The better the condition, the higher the price but these are really common, and come up a lot.

A worker would be best for your first, but, be prepared, as it will break. This is not negotiable, it will break.

As for the internals,.you have a plethora of plug n play options. Again budget may have a part to play here.

Good luck.

You might be better off starting with a Pi with Jamma adapter, Mistercade is good but expensive doesnt give as many games to play as the Pi would as Mister has a limited set of Arcade cores avialable on it. Also there are more and more clone boards being released recently so will be cheaper options in the future.

Ive just gotten a Taki Udon Mister clone with SDRAM and a Jamma/JVS adapter off Aliexpress and its all cost me under £180, compare that to the cost of the Mistercade with an original DE10 nano, quite a difference.

Of course you could always get both and then swap between them just like proper Jamma PCBs.

Welcome. I started like you. Bought a Jamma cab in 2004 with a Neo Geo MVS 1 slot intending to only ever have that with a PC inside. Soon, you'll be looking at moving to find somewhere with more space... ;):ROFLMAO:

I'm now up to 4, which is nothing compared to a lot of people on here. Good luck with whatever route you decide.

P.S. I'd go for 6 buttons per player, especially if you do like Street Fighter.

Hi & welcome ..

I would start with mame
With a jpac

That way you can learn about the jamma pinout connections
And all the ways you can configure audio and visually 15khz cga crt & 31khz vga crt ,
You may want to buy a ready made cab all working, But if you do this you may come up short when a fault arises.

Building your self a mame /jamma build will greatly educate you in how it all goes together and works.

For 15khz matched original refresh rates, Groovymame is good.

if you get a mister ..
You don’t really need a jamma loom.
If building up from scratch..
USB to buttons & sticks like a brooks universal will do

We had a Simpsons pcb and a wonder boy bootleg die recently, these were in generic cabs, a electro coin duet and an astro city cab both with monitors. Seeking a plug and play replacement we came across a Pandoras box 2800(maybe 2600)in 1 unit for around £50. Yes there's a lot of games on it but for our purposes we turned all the games off except the one we wanted and set to freeplay. The Simpsons appears bang on, the wonder boy is quite shakey for the 1st level but playable once past that. We liked them so much we bought more and set up a track and field a golden axe and sonic the hedgehog for now. I'm certain it's got golden axe 2 in it and almost all the 80's classics. The games list is available on google. The unit itself can switch between crt, monitor and lcd so as our crt's that can't be repaired die we can switch easily. I don't know what the purists think about this unit but if you could acquire a jamma cab it is simple to set up. I will say the cab will need 3 buttons so that you can navigate the menu, Things get a bit iffy when you want to have more than 1 game on in regards to the public being able to change through the games but for home use you'll suss it pretty quick. Hope you get things sorted and start enjoying the classics again.
