Hello from Cambridgeshire!

Yes indeed, my dad took me to Toys R' Us at least twice to look for it - both times it had the red 'Out of stock' sticker on it. I was mortified!

History nearly repeated itself a few years later when my Dad took me into Woolworths to get my Christmas present in 1996 - A Nintendo 64. This time with Goldeneye and Turok, the woman behind the till couldn't find the Goldeneye cart. We were about to give up and she found it in the VHS tapes or something..

Some good game choices there - especially Shinobi. I was crazy about Chase HQ, Prisoners of War and Final Fight (amongst others)
Excellent Nintendo Christmas story.
Christmas 1988 i went with family to get ZX Spectrum +2 in Dixons. They gave a +3 by mistake.! Paid for it in the end because couldn't offered the disk games! Anyway, was after a Master System by this time. Chase HQ, P.O.W. Final Fight some good games there. Outrun, Bubble Bobble, Rolling Thunder, Wonderboy

Thank you all for the kind welcome and shared christmas experiences!

My Master System came with Alex Kidd built-in and Sonic 1 as a pack-in cart. And two controllers, weirdly, even though neither game could take advantage of the second. Fortunately our local video rental store had plenty of games we could rent and I spent plenty of weekends playing Shinobi, the New Zealand Story, Pacmania, all the 8-bit Sonics... I think most of my favourite MS games were arcade ports!

Obviously the AES is a great system for its arcade accuracy and I adore the King of Fighters and Metal Slug series. If I get an MVS then I'll want KOF '98 and Metal Slug X in there for sure.

Otherwise my very favourite arcade board of all time is Ms Pac-Man (I like the variety in boards vs vanilla Pac-Man), with Outrun coming a very close second.

Yes the Master System had some right little gems, it was nice on colours for games like The New Zealand Story. Little 8-bit warrior.

My nephew recently picked up an AES with Fatal Fury Special. First time I've seen or played the console, amazing. We run it through one of my sony pvm monitors, looked so good. I've gotta get the MVS for my arcade cabinet now.

Ms Pac-Man yes classic and a good second choice with Outrun. My favourite board has to be Double Dragon, just that music and the clunky organic gameplay and the freedom of movement. First time i saw it was lunchtime, video shop near my old school. So much nostalgia. Probably Shinobi would be my second choice.
