Hi,
I've loved arcade games since I first played Avalanche at my local swimming pool as a 6 year old.
I don't own any but it's always been the dream.
Been reading this forum on and off for a few years while trying to pluck up the courage to take the leap.....

Welcome aboard.

Time to dip your toe for real, now, it sounds.

Lots of cabs come up for sale on here. I would stay away from Ebay and FB for your first purchase.

Choose a decent seller on here with decent feedback and not only will you get an honestly described cab, the price should be fair and you'll get some support when it breaks down.

NB. It will break.

Yes that's the daunting part for me as I'm sure it is for most to begin with. Shelling out a grand then it breaking on it's way to me or something like that.
I've tried to find out about repairs and maintenance but I'd be starting with close to zero knowledge. I guess I won't know if I can do it until I try.

Everyone starts somewhere, usually at the beginning. Loads of incredibly clever folk on here to help out though.

A grand will certainly get you a nice cab, but, remember your first car.....

So, why not look for a small generic jamma cab. Sure, it isn't going to win any awards, but it works exactly the same way as any other cab, power supply, monitor, PCB, controls. And it will break, just like the expensive cab will. But it will have only cost you a few hundred.

It won't make it any easier to fix, but you may feel more comfortable, knowing if you break something further it didn't cost that much. And, everything is fixable, or replaceable.

Good luck.

As above, get a cheap ish Jamma cab, and a couple of your fav games, upgrade a few bits as you fancy and learn as you go.

I had zero knowledge when I picked up my first cab on eBay (£110 for a Jamma cab, ESwat, TMNT, Double Dragon and Wrestlefest!) but have slowly learnt over the years. There are plenty of people on here to help with things.

Thanks for the advice and welcomes everyone, no doubt I'll be on here at some point asking daft questions, and probably for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to answer some one day but that could be some time away!
