Hey hey, it's time to restore a Crazy Taxi!

Finally I could afford it... One of my holy grails is finally my possession: an original Sega Crazy Tazi in a Naomi standup cabinet:

So why is it in the restorations page then? Well for starters, half the artwork is missing and the ones that are there are in Italian:

Also, I am playing it like this:

Because the monitor does this:

This is a classic example of a CRT with a bad yoke. I measured the vertical impedance to double check and it’s 12.7 Ohms, twice the value it should be. One of the parallel windings is open.

I am trying to source a yoke as we speak. Also will buy Muddymusic's entire kit of artwork and replacements for the missing bolts. If all fails I might even do an LCD mod. This one is gonna be fun.

To be continued...

Yoke is off. Most stressful part was getting off the purity rings as they were completely glued to the neck from factory paint marker. Some sweat later and here we are:

So next up is disassembling the yoke and trying to see if I can find the issue. Let's see if I report back with great success or great failure

It's nice that you bought this!

I saw the ad with the seller saying that he wanted a certain amount of money for it or he would strip it for parts and sell it on e-bay.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Yeah, this was the "I want XX euros or I'll part it out" ad. I was really in line with multiple people trying to get it at asking price and got lucky. Quite the challenging pickup in the dark as it did not fit my 2 meter trailer...

Reporting back with great success

So I desoldered the yoke wires, pried off the glue and there was the broken wire hiding beneith:

Put a jumper wire:

Soldered the thing together again:

One heart attack turning it on after assembly later... NICE:

Next week my high temperature RTV silicone will come in and I'll reinforce my yoke patches. For now, I am very happy to play this game properly

Not super picture worthy, nut about 25% of the screws on this naomi were either missing or just utterly mismatched.

Turns out you can buy stainless steel security torx nuts from Aliexpress pretty cheap. They are not an exact head size, nut no one but the utmost nerds will notice.

Got all of Muddymusic's Crazy Taxi stickers

First up, sides. The originals were mostly there but edges were all gone and it seems someone tried to clearcoat 'em poorly.

I took it off with a hairdryer, and went nuts with sticker remover.

Then it was just a matter of alligning and putting the good stuff onn.

Now add the missing flame sticker and you get a result I'm very proud of :)

"Let's get awesome" well, you sure did that

You did an amazing job imo, and not only that, but Sega chose a great color for a game like this.

Stunning cabinet, great game.
