Welcome ZXSpec. Are you still in sunny Bridlington? I work there now. Grew up a bit further down the East Coast in Withernsea, so that's where I frequented the arcades most of the 80s

Hi, I still live in East Yorkshire, my younger brother and I were dropped off at the Bridlington arcades in the 80s while our parents visited my gran. Many an afternoon playing paperboy, spy hunter and watching others play dragons lair!

Arcades were almost like free babysitting in the 80's)

Nice. Paperboy and Spy Hunter still playable in an East Yorkshire arcade if you're ever near me in Sproatley. ;) In fact they are my 2 favourite cabs and the 2 games I will almost certainly never part with. Dragon's Lair I've never been as enthusiastic about. I've also got several ZX Spectrums and a collection of games too

Welcome dude

It's one thing remembering the games but another trying to remember what the cabs looked like you played. one I'd never seen of the Ninja Hero Turtles was this one without the big marquee top section, They didn't like the word Ninja in UK, The Master Ninja with Lee Van Cleef was The Master

That's the one I remember playing. Not the one with the April O'Neil actress on the side.

The Turtles cab isn't too bad, The simpson UK one is awful looking, they should have just used the Turtles one for that too

The USA Simpsons looks much better. I can remember watching the Intro of Turtles in Thomas's arcade in Leicester, it was pretty cool intro for it's time, my mate was playing Kung Fu Master a bit further down, can't remember any other games in that one apart from those two

I'm really surprised to find out how different some of the dedicated cabs were in the UK. I know we had a lot of the generic cabs that chippy's and pubs used but when I think back to the dedicated ones in bridlington and Scarborough my memory doesnt relate to the ones I see in US youtube clips or books. Maybe it's my memory and the passage of time!

I think segas Carnival and Burning Rubber are different in the UK.

The sad thing is I never took much notice of the cabs, to busy looking at the cool graphics on screen and sounds. Can assume some where original cabs like Road Runner, Indy Jones, Rampage, Xybots... pretty sure I remember the CP artwork on Rolling Thunder but Double Dragon I played the most I have no idea what it looked like and doubt at all it was original USA cab, couldn't even say if Popeye was original Nintendo, just wish I had photo's of them all

The more time I spend in these threads the more I can feel myself unable to resist the urge to buy a proper 80s cab to go next to my defender themed pc MAME cabinet.

I started with intention of a few Mame based cabs after mate downloading Arcade emulators that ran in Dos, only started with a small list of the old classics and then as later ones came we started to get to my arcade years I was in my local ones in later 80's though we did go in the arcades in the late 70s early 80s but only remember playing old style cranes, wheel em in, electro mechanical shooting games, 2p pushers etc

My days of the local arcades was pretty cool, we had a good few in Leicester center and many of the classics like Yie Ar Kung Fu, Double Dragon 1 & 2, Ninja Warriors, Xybots, Paperboy, Road Runner, Indy Jones, Rampage, Joust, Popeye, Rolling Thunder, Jail Break, Green Beret, 1942, POW, Shinobi, Operation Wolf though don't remember where, Dragon's Lair. Thomas's had some of the Bigger simulator machines on left as you walked in but can't remember which but i'd say Outrun, After Burner, Continental Circus Sitdown and only other 2 I remember was Ninja Turtles and Kung Fu Master though there was a lot more but just can't remember any others

I'd have liked all the cabs I used to play but as said many wouldn't be Dedicated, more like Jamma cabs with the games in. Started buying ones that you couldn't play on mame easy so first cab Operation Wolf, then Chase HQ though I used to play it on Raine Emu with PC Steering wheel but Outrun wasn't fully working back then so I got Outrun machine.

It's nice having cabs with special controls like Guns, Driving games (though then can be played in one Driving cab with emus) any machines with multiple screens, 720 with rotary controller, Paperboy so I don't have loads of originals with just Joysticks though I did get Double Dragon, Kung Fu Master, Street Fighter, Rampage, Indy Jones, but then ended up getting Pac-Man and Space Invaders as everyone asks if you have them when mentioning vintage arcade machines lol

So which would be your most wanted Dedicated cab? assuming you liked Ninja Turtles which again if space permitted I would have bought one as nice with 4 player and you could swap pcb and have Simpsons, Vendetta etc
