Now that all but one of the kids has left home I can get my games room back but cannot work out what to put in it. The days of me owning loads of cabs are long gone as I just don't need the hassle of looking after them again so am limiting myself to consoles and PC, but of course there are loads of them so I am looking for ideas as to how to get the room set up, what sort of cabinets to get to hold them, how many screens, and what type of screen - LCD/CRT etc.

Any nice pictures of your console setups would be appreciated as I would really like ideas so I can make the room look nice, and have lots of space that needs filling...

That Technics Amp & Graphic?, looks like the ones I used to have till I sold them and kept early 80's ones as I like the style of them and Superbass

That's how you want them really. firstly you want to see them and be setup all time so can just switch on and have a go without hassle

I have my C64 and Amiga 500 setup in loft on a big desk but even 14" monitors and those soon take up some space with cassette deck, floppy drives, etc and still want somewhere for my 486/pentium PC's and the Memotech setup as I was more into Computers than Console, have got quite a bit of Dreamcast stuff and Colecovision and box of old PS1 and 2 but never get round to playing anything these days as always working on sorting it all out

Did start playing C64 Bram Stokers Dracula as I used to enjoy that, I setup the 128D next to bed and have it hooked up to my TV, reason I chose that setup to use is the Seperate keyboard on them, had to make extension for it though so I can sit in bed with just keyboard to type on as there better than C64, was great to finally finish the 1st part, if only I had read the book or seen the film years back I would of done that part years back

I bought ones of these chrome racks with 3 shelves from Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01M0XLTT5?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I haven't set it up yet but hoping to get a lot of my consoles set up on there.

Scart switches I have the madcatz ones daisy chained x3. GameCube themed amp and satellite speakers for sound.

TV is 21 inch SONY Trinitron CRT

Planning on having my supergun/ST-V/Atomiswave/4-slot/PGM connected as well.

Will be nice to have everything set up again and ready to be played.

I have a Plasma ready to use for more modern gaming and bought an OSSC to try out for older consoles as well, see how they look

I have three Sony Trinitron CRT TV's (14", 21", 25") all connected via scart leads to my OG Xbox, Neo-Geo and PI3. All running at 60Hz of course in 4:3 ratio at 240p.

Pics to follow,

I’ve tried to maximise the space I have and what I can have out and connected whilst keeping everything as neat as possible, I have consoles down one half of one of my walls in my games room and this is the set up.

2 of those IKEA 8x2 Kallex units, one of them has the shelf dividers in it and the other unit has the white card boxes, boring I know, but it keeps it neat and tidy. I’ve got space for a 2x2 unit to go at the end of the 2x8 unitss o next time I go to IKEA I’m going to pick one up.

Not got all my consoles set up due to lack of space but currently these ones are set up and it’s just a case of putting the plug in and attaching a controller, which is so much nicer than unboxing the console plugging it all in then packing it up when I want to play a different system, which is what I used to have to do. Neo AES, Neo CD, AV Famicom, Super Famicom, N64, GameCube, Wii, PCE CoreGrafx II, MegaDrive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2 and 360. They’re all NTSC-J other than the Wii and 360. I did have a pal PS2 hooked up but that broke about a week ago so I've just swapped it out for my NTSC-J.

On the top of the units I have 2 TVs and a super gun, I’ve got a few superguns but I’m currently using an AV7000 with a TB9000 stick, I think it’s a TB9000. I use 2x Sony KV-14LT1U TVs, one fed by a Gscartsw 8.2 and a Bandridge svb7725 goes to the other TV. I use either official scart cables or ones by retro gaming cables for all of the consoles other than for the N64 or AV Famicom as I like to keep them factory. Although I have a bunch of the rad2x cables and a few component cables if I ever want to use them on a newer TV. I also use an Airlink for the Japanese consoles which is tucked away one of the bottom shelves.

Controllers are a bit of a pain as if they’re out they look messy so that’s where a couple of the white card boxes come in handy as all of my consoles have official pads and most if not all also have vintage hori fight sticks, but the sticks have to go elsewhere. I’ve been using the brook converters for Neo, Saturn, DC, PS2, MD and PCE with some PS4 fight sticks, I've also been using the 8bitdo pads which I quite like. I’ve always liked the Vewlix Hori VLX stick but it’s too big to have out as it used to sit where my supergun is so I’ve been using the Daija recently and that actually fits in one of the shelves so looks tidy which is a massive bonus. Also to save more games room space I’ve got krikzz N8pro for Famicom, fx pack pro and a sd2snes for SFC, x7 for N64 mega everdrive pro for the MD, a terra onion and a krikzz for the PCE and a terraonion for the AES oh and a fertec mvs converter which I really like as it saves loads of space. In the future I’d like to get ODE for my CD consoles so that those games can be stored away but they’re even more expensive than the flash carts.

All of the above fits neatly in and on top of 1 unit, other than one of the TVs which sits on the second unit but I think it goes to show that you can have a lot of gaming in a tiny space and it can look incredibly neat and tidy too.

It’s storing the fight sticks, the unused consoles, the empty console boxes and all of the blooming games which is the main problem as there’s so much and they never looks as neat and tidy as I’d like them to so at the moment they’re split between being kept in an under the stairs walk in wardrobe/ cupboard and in storage.

I'm using the 8bitDo M30 for the Megadrive and the SN30 for the Super Famicom. For as much as I like playing on original hardware through a CRT, wireless controllers are so much better :)

The original Saturn controller was great, but for the moment i've connected up the Switch pro controller and the 8bitdo arcade stick (modded with sanwa lever and buttons) for fighting games. I've got an consolized MVS but haven't really worked out how to get a wireless setup there.

I'm yet to get a decent scart switcher for my few. Keep pinging between expensive jobby, to Ali special and back then end up doing nothing 🤦🏻‍♂️
