How many of us are still out there working?

Unfortunately I'm still working as normal. I work for a sign company and our biggest customer provides 1000s of Van's to utility companies etc and we make and fit all the graphics so we're as busy as ever.

You see so many people not observing the 2m rule and no matter how hard you try (I must wash my hands 100 times a day) you're bound to touch things that other people have and drive vehicles other people have just driven. Worst thing was I had to use a taxi twice last week to go pick up vans and who knows who he'd had in that taxi before me that day?
I absolutely hate going out to work then coming home to my family who are all self isolating at the moment. I take my clothes off at the door, stick them in the wash then have a shower.

Anyway moan over. I know some of you will have it worse.

I think companies should have a duty to shut down and pay workers at this point.

I have been locked in for nearly a week now, i take the dogs for a walk, but the amount of people i see chatting at front gates or meeting at shops is amazing in this climate.

I really feel for small businesses ad the self employed, but you have to try and keep people safe..it will only hit home when someone you love dies of it.

Yep same here , I manage a big automotive parts warehouse and we are deemed as key workers ? The way they got round it was saying we were supplying parts for the emergency services. . I very much doubt it to be honest.

I don't like the thought of bringing it home to my family but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do I suppose.

Yep, still working as normal. Our bosses told us we're key workers as we indirectly support part of the food and pharmaceutical industry. But our phones are not ringing, and no-one's buying. At least I'm getting paid.... for now. Don't know what will happen next week. No way I'll be paid for sitting at home even though I can do part of my job from home. So maybe it'll be Boris' 80% scheme (which I would be very happy to go onto) or I'll be made redundant.

A lot of businesses are still working, if the business isn’t open to the public like retail shops and you can’t work from home then they can stay open. I understand your concerns, all you can do is be firm that you keep to the 2 metre distancing rule, they can not make you ignore that. And if anyone at your work is unwell you must insist they go home. As for things you touch I recommend getting gloves, thin rubber gloves for when you need your hands for working, any gloves for driving etc. And remember don’t touch your face, and it’s only most important to wash your hands if you’re about to eat with your hands, and as soon as you get home so you keep germs out of your house.
I’m working too, only with one person though, but as soon as I get home I do as you do, clothes in the wash, shower straight away. Most of the people who get it will be the people ignoring the 2 metre rule, and eating with their unwashed hands.

Although some garages have closed, far as I know they're allowed to stay open to repair peoples cars as most people still need them to go shopping or work for those that are still working. So much so that a garage will still need parts. Obviously there's been a drastic drop in work though for most places. I think most places have closed though, certainly breakers yards (99.9% sure the largest local one here has), and I think the main Ford dealership round here closed it's doors yesterday for the foreseeable future (or at least till the government ease the restrictions on movement and what businesses can be open).

I haven't noticed much difference, as I do most stuff from home anyway. Only difference is being much restricted on where I can go. Dog gets taken for a decent walk up the back fields in the morning (you rarely see anyone up there when things are normal anyway!), but that's it now!

I had to tell my boss and one of the other lads off for standing next to each other chatting. It wasn't the first time it had happened so I went mad at them

I do wear gloves when I can but it's impossible to use them when I'm wrapping a van or applying vinyl to anything. The boss even watered down the fecking soap the other day, I didn't let him off with that either.

I feel as if I'm taking part in a zombie movie, it's so surreal at times. Never mind plastic bags, people will be finding discarded rubber gloves for years to come.

I’m a Facilities manager for a large building services company, we are working from home if possible, I haven’t had a day at home yet as the customer wants me on site even though they have stood down. Very worrying times for us all, stay safe out there.

I'm considered a key worker, hgv driver collecting online items from wayfair/very/range/made/littlewoods etc...and bringing them back to our depot in Worcester to be transferred onto 7.5t Van's and onto the customers. Everyone seams to be ordering treadmills and freezers. I'm asked the same questions from the suppliers regarding the outbreak, I have to wipe the cab down before I start, and have a letter in my cab if the police stop me, to prove I need to be on the road.

Just been finished for 2 weeks on the 80% , work in textiles . However the mail order side is still online and I have been told to return first day back after Easter Monday. 2 week Tuesday I think ? Return no matter what regardless, or leave

I’m being nagged to go do do building work for the rich spoiled self important people that actually don’t give a sh*t if you or your family got sick and died so I guess I will be making up some self demeaning lie Monday morning for my own self preservation.. as holding out my hand on a daily basis for my survival isn’t enough.. now I’m supposed to say I’m sorry but as there is a killer disease out there er no I think I will not be slaving my arse off in your f**king mansion so you can make more money!

They actually said as only the landscape gardeners and decorators are there that I will be ok?

Obviously their parents paid for them to go to the boris trump school of future analysis and have crystal balls
So who am I to question it....Also

Guy in the flat also no gloves Hands delivery guy items back!!
Namely 1 bottle milk 1 bottle orange juice and bananas. “No I didn’t order these “

Ocado Delivery guy just calmly puts the items in with all the other shopping....
So if anyone you know uses Ocado... I would wash it!
As Probably been handled by more than just delivery people.

Fortunately I can work from home, as can my wife.

Mornings I'm on childcare/schooling, then I work in the afternoon. Long days, but going OK so far. It is a relief to be able to hide-away, other than the odd trip to the shops. I accept that statistically it's not so bad, but I'm in no hurry to let any of us catch it.

The measures are only intended to keep the death rates within intensive care limits, not to eradicate it - there's an expectation that you won't get 100% compliance. And even if we did (and starved), the virus would still be spreading through the unfortunate key workers and their kids who are still at school

I might be wrong, but regarding touching surfaces, I’ve been under the impression you don’t get it through touching stuff alone - it requires putting your fingers in your mouth, eyes or touching food you subsequently eat.

I work from home 90% of the time, and the wife is a nurse, so very little has changed in our household.

But my work isn't critical so I wouldn't be surprised if I am given notice. As a contractor, that means no government support but I budget for being out of work for 6 months plus, so not panicking just yet.

The NHS staff are getting an awful lot of love at the moment - and rightly so. But much respect to everyone else on the fringes that are keeping the country running - the IT tech, the logistics guys, the refuse collectors, the mechanics, the utility works etc etc. Thanks for being there....

Am still doing emergency repairs...but you wouldn't believe some of the things tenants consider an emergency...1 of 3 lightbulbs in a fitting popped...bathroom sink tap dripping...window stiff to open...

Have done one real emergency in 2 weeks...recent conversion 5 flats (all electric) 1 Consumer unit per flat...all daisy chained on 10mm twin & earth...a week after completion, all appliances on 1 night...poof nothing...

Turns out you cant pull 72A through 10mm cable safely...as last link of chain proved...insulation had melted off nearly 12" of it before it shorted and took out the main fuse...lucky for the upstairs tenants as any longer and a fire would have started...

Western power were impressed with the eastern european electricians knowledge and skills...oh wait, no they weren't

me and my wife both have to go to work as we are classed as key workers,luckily though we are both only part time these days,as we are mortgage free and have rental properties to top up our income,it amazes me the amount of people still gathering on the beaches we overlook,despite the goverment stay at home rules,the police did turn up the otherday and disperse them,but because it's been so nice weather wise down here in cornwall at the moment,the next day a large group of people was back again
