When I first read the thread title, I was expecting a picture of the Duke of Lancaster :LOL:

Our local independent TV shop has been long gone for ages now. The empty shop with his banner is all that remains :(
Cheap LCD TV’s, DVD and BlueRay players pretty much killed these types of shop off.

We had one in our local town that was there for years but went 5 odd years ago. I am surprised he lasted that long , I spoke to him a lot when I had the business and his trade completely died off. No one having anything repaired anymore its all chuck away. He was a Panasonic specialist and stockist and said that complanies like Amazon / Argos has tv's produced solely for them and they only made enough parts to repair there own returns so he could no get them. So when a TV went wrong after the guarantee there was no parts to buy for him to repair. He also did no fix no fee so he was wasting his time even looking at tv's. They also used to rent to buy TV's / VHS recorders. I had a few back in the day. A n absolute shame as the shop was excellent , proper family owned too. Not like bloody Rumbalows ! lol

Shame with Maplins , I mean what a fantastic place that was !!! You could go in and just buy 1 x 3v Red LED !!!! Expensive but wasnt when you look at what you could buy in 1's. I have about 500 330ohm resisters and only wanted 3 ! lol.

Kill me and let me be rebourn in the 70's again !

Yes .. shame Maplins went I used to get components there at Llandudno store… and still have a pocket meter (Tandy) Maplin when they were in Chester!

Also great store for disco lights / add ons / stands / pa stuff etc even vinyl styli …..

@TheDaddy my friend in Stoke knows of an electronics guy / workshop / shop … in town .. he gets his juke parts tested here and buys components odd times too for me… I don’t know it myself, he reckons they repair test gear for hospitals and industry .. it may be a unit on a industrial park … I will try get it’s location for you?

There are one or two in Cheshire but don’t do TTL or CMOS items just tv parts mainly
so little help for home hobbyists .. fall back is eBay or RS spares etc. even the old trade parts dealers don’t stock like pinball rubbers or monitor bits BUT Maggi electronics in Bolton still good for coin mechs and a few repair jobs?

I need to visit some of my old trade contacts see who is still supplying parts?

I stayed in an Air B&B opposite that shop in Aber last year, been going to the town all my life and that shop never changes! I was wondering if it was still a going concern because it never seems to open, but I did see some comings and goings and people picking things up. I guess it's not exactly a shop these days but still part of a repair business or something.

Yeh looks like a good hi fi online repair guy ..
But also seems to repair anything
Tv , record players ..etc
